ccTLD clarification

Hi -

When you see the term cctld what comes to mind. is it extensions like
.de, .cc, .io etc etc that comes to mind

Have you ever heard of a cctld like the above having a typein
in overture.

To me, when I see 'ccTLD' I see a mental list with many many ccTLDs. There are so many that I do not think specifics but rather overall.

Overture measures keywords, which is what you submit when you search for something. If you type in the domain directly into google, it's rather pointless because it would make more sense to type it in the address bar.

It's all a matter of traffic to get mistypes or searches with TLD. Here's a overture with extension AND subomain:

ccTld = country code Top level domain

.us is a ccTld, .de is a ccTld, .tv is a ccTld, .cc is a ccTld, .se is a ccTld and so on. More information here. List of all ccTld's here.

If you're looking at ccTld's in Europe you will find a lot of domains with overture. In many countries the local ccTld is more popular than .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz. Remember to look up overture results in the local language, not in US overture.

Example:
Look up "vg.no" in Norwegian overture here. Results for May 2006 is 36.445. Vg.no is a Norwegian newspaper.

What I mean it is the exception more than the rule that you
will find a name with a cctld extension that has a typein - in
overture - I think

Unless a CC domain is already well known (such as the vg.no example above) it likely is not going to get much traffic. I get 5 - 10 uniques a month on my LL CC domains and that is probably above the average. And look at the value - sex.io is at $5,000 and it gets its own thread. Sex dot com is valued at several thousand times that, so I have heard.

.DE, .FR, .CN, .IN - the larger countries have dynamic markets in their own extensions. The small extensions are lost at the present time. A few are receiving publicity such as .TV and .CC - both are tiny islands but Verisign has the contract, so we hear about them.
