Catching domain software

Hi All

I was wondering if anybody has purchased a software for catching expiring domains? I see a company offering this service where the software will capture the desired domain name for you.

I'm a newbie and pretty sceptical about this. I thought that all domains go straight to companies, such as snapnames, pool etc. Then you must place a backorder, then it goes to auction.

It can work for non-premium domains (domains that dropcatchers are not after). You can beat the handreggers but that's it.
