Hello,

Please appraise Casino.hk

The extension is for Hong Kong where gambling is very hot!

Had some bids on it mid $x,xxx but I believe it to be a domain with more potential in the coming year(s)

Hong Kong is getting very strong and according to Newsweek Chinese govt is going to allow international ipo's on hong stock market which will be attractive to public and smaller traders and investors. Hong Kong will continue to grow more stronger as a benchmark for the Chinese economy.
There is a stock exchange in Shanghai but that one lists merely state owned companies and only desirable for huge foreign investors.

Besides this domain 'casino' has high keyword value at the moment, we see it to represent a bigger economical value in the future.

Thank you for your appraisals.

HK PRESS: Macau Casino Operator Plans HK Share Offering
HONG KONG (Dow Jones)--A Macau casino operator controlled by gaming mogul Stanley Ho is seeking to list on the Hong Kong stock exchange, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

Citing sources, the newspaper says that Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, SA, or SJM - which holds one of Macau's three gaming concessions to operate casinos in the city - has been reorganizing the company's businesses and has formed a holding company in preparation for its proposed listing.

SJM will need to secure approval from the Macau government before it can proceed with its listing, the report says. Any changes over 5% in the shareholding structure of a casino concession holder must receive regulatory approval.

The approval process is complicated and will take SJM "longer than usual" to list its shares, when compared with other Macau-related companies that listed in Hong Kong, the newspaper says.

SJM is a unit of conglomerate Sociedade De Turismo e Diversoes De Macau, the city's largest company by assets that is controlled by Stanley Ho. It operates 16 casinos in Macau.

Other shareholders include Hong Kong-listed Shun Tak Holdings Ltd. (0242.HK), which is also controlled by Ho's family, and Cheng Yu-tung, chairman of Hong Kong property developer New World Development Co. (0017.HK).

SJM was granted a license to operate casinos in Macau in 2002, after the city liberalized its gaming market. Previously, its parent company STDM had a monopoly in the gaming market for about 40 years.

The other licenses are held by two consortia led by Sheldon Adelson, owner of the Venetian in Las Vegas, and Steve Wynn, of U.S.-based Wynn Resorts.

Some news I picked up which I believe is very interesting concerning the long term evolution of this domain.

You could try to market it to the gambling junket tour companies that do the HK - MO hydrofoil run, or put up a site with info about them

Providing casino/online gambling service is illegal in HK, and unless China decides to allow Casinos to operate in HK (a possibility, 20 years from now), so one can break the law for using this domain for this purpose.

Since there's no end user market. If i were you, i'll quickly cash out by selling the domain to the highest offer, while domain speculators are dazzled with the word 'casino'.

Don't worry it has HIGH keyword value, there are talks about legalizing gambling in Hong Kong, and this domain could very well become a portal towards Macau. Most ppl in the world think Hong Kong = Casino.
This domain is not to market only locally but very much more the rest of the world. HKDNR didn't post any restrictions concerning this matter.

There are no casinos in HK, that's why people often go to Macau for gambling...

There is gambling in HK and even legal but controlled for now by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. There is talk about building a Casino(s). And it won't take 20 years.

The talk won't take 20 years. In fact a mere 3-4 months after some legislator came down with a case of Singapore Envy on a local radio show you don't hear anyone anyone talking about it. Not saying that it won't happen. But if it does it will be a long way off and will be one small isolated tourist-only casino. It won't be another Macau, and honestly I don't see how any of this information on Macau is relevant.

One possible use could be for the gambling cruises out of HK. For those aren't familiar with them, every night a few thousand people pack onto cruise ships and sail into international waters where they gamble the night away. Again, not a huge market, but if you can afford a few cruise ships you certainly have some cash behind you.

Quote from and Article of associated press:
"In Asia, Shanghai is full of drive and energy. Hong Kong is opening its Disneyland, Hong Kong is also talking about opening a casino to compete with Macau,'' Prime minister Lee said."

Ok The Macau Article was a bit off topic, sorry bout that.
Hong Kong already has legal betting on two counts, being the horse races, and the stock exchange. The fact Casino Ipo's are allowed maybe reflect that the line between the talks and actual building one are getting much thinner.

Also they are very likely going to follow up on building one or more. Due to control. What do they have now, illegal gambling and off shore gambling cruises. Ok it won't be a Macau, but then again the Macau domain extension sucks at this time.

Also, when I regged this name a few months ago I didn't have any clue about the Hong Kong Casino and gambling world and maybe it sometimes shows in these threads but I'm investigating and learning a lot about it now.

But the fact remains the name was free, it did not have any restrictions and the combination (Casino + Hong Kong) sounded cool, so I took it. .HK are not cheap $8 names and I don't have money to throw around, but I didn't hesitate with this one.

Now if they start building a casino in HK tomorrow, Woohoo I guess, if they don't, well, you simply cannot deny that this name is HOT.

Hong Kong also has some forms of sports betting as well as a lottery. Both are run by the Jockey Club. There are also Mahjong parlours which operate independently.

There's a lot that could be done with this name and I think you are limiting yourself by tying it to a casino that may be built some time in the future. As a single word .hk name it would be ideal to develop as a casino portal targeted at HK people. Presumably it would be relatively easy to get it to place high in a google search for casino in pages from HK. As a region unspecific portal it could still do well.

In fact I imagine that many of the offers have received for it are from people simply looking at the “casino.” value of it regardless of the extension.

Hi Prima,

Thanks for your replies. It was not specially that I chose this domain for some casino to be build there, as I did not know that on time of registration. I regularly register ccTLD's and it just happened that I bounced on that one. It was free, there were no limitations and I took it because it sounded nice. I had it on stable for almost 2 months before even giving it a good look :hehe:

You are right, I shouldn't look into it as just a casino domain. I want to develop it more thoroughly but I don't have the time right now.

yeah, your not going to get much in ppc unless you have people actually typing in your domain. Seeing as though you havent, dont set your sights high with earning a lot in this way.

your only value is in selling it. And if you want my advice, id market it for $15k and take the profit and or potential quick sale....

Ding Ding Ding ! We have a winner. Casino.hk just sold on Sedo for 15k !
