The number of U.S. citizens visiting Canada's main immigration Web site has shot up six-fold as Americans flirt with the idea of abandoning their homeland after President George W. Bush's election win this week.

"When we looked at the first day after the election, November 3, our Web site hit a new high, almost double the previous record high," immigration ministry spokeswoman Maria Iadinardi said on Friday.

There's nothing wrong with speaking french.

I don't think I said there was anything wrong with it. But since mentioned, I think it's only fitting they learn to speak the same language as France if they would leave the USA. Just too easy and similar to go to Ontario or the western Provinces.

Weren't the blue states the "rich" ones?

No, not necessarily. The blue states are the ones that had more votes for Kerry. The reason for this is they tend to be more liberal than conservative, mainly due to population density. The Blue states contain some of the bigger cities including New York, Chicago, L.A., Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, etc. People from those states have migrated to nearby states like the new england states and the Pacific Northwest. Densely populated areas tend to atract people who are used to the government doing more for them and want this. Those in less dense states think the opposite. The Great Lakes states tend to be liberal due to the old industrial "rust belt" area around the lakes and union/factory labor density.

I don't think rich has anything to do with it. Texas and Florida could be considered rich states, but were colored red. There are rich and poor of both liberals and conservatives. Although the rich do somewhat tend to reside in those states and in the large cities. The big cities also have more than their share of low income people as well.

Really? You sure? LOL

Well yes, incase you havn't figured it out the blue states are where all the big cities are. Florida isn't really a "rich" state, I live here, it's nothing but rednecks, maybe in southern Florida though.

But generally you make more in a factory or bank then on a farm or on a ranch. Hence the blue states being richer.

Read again, I think I specifically stated that specifically.

I would say Florida has more than it's share of rich people, and as a state in whole, has sufficient money for it's highways and other infrastruture though the "richness" of it's tourism and rate of development.

The highest unemployment and welfare rates also tend to be in the bigger cities. Rich can be a relative term as well depending on cost and standard of living. Making more doesn't necessarily translate into a better standard of living. Making more in New York City or Silicon Valley and then spending 2-4 times more on a home or apartment doesn't always mean your standard of living is better. Hawaii, Vermont, Maine, and Oregon don't fit the profile of having big cities or even metropolitan areas, or even lots of factories.
