The number of U.S. citizens visiting Canada's main immigration Web site has shot up six-fold as Americans flirt with the idea of abandoning their homeland after President George W. Bush's election win this week.

"When we looked at the first day after the election, November 3, our Web site hit a new high, almost double the previous record high," immigration ministry spokeswoman Maria Iadinardi said on Friday.

Canada would be open to such people. They need more people; as the article said, around 240,000 new immigrants next year is what they want.

It is interesting though, I don't think people would move just because of Bush's re-election. But then again, there's probably a bigger reason.

People don't just leave their countries and homes without very good reason. Fear is what is driving our citizens away... and I can't say that I blame them. Some people are being pushed out... made to feel as though they are immoral, or wrong. Our very basic rights are being run through the wash cycle. One step forward... two steps back is not how people want to exist... and they shouldn't have to. The government should stop trying to protect us from ourselves and better protect us from eachother. As a people we have yet to expierence true freedom, as opposed to the lies we are fed only masked as freedom.

I highly doubt that even 1/10th of those people are even really considering moving to Canada over the election results. I would never leave USA unless there was a real NEED to, as would almost everyone else. Bush's winning isn't what I would like but it is by no means a reason to leave the country.
