Is there anyway of owning a .ca domain name without having Canadian presidence? Anyway of getting around this restriction like for example .de has restrictions, but Godaddy will act as Administration contact to get around this?

And if so, which are the best cheapest registrar to go with to accomplish this?

I don't think a major registrar would risk the wrath of CIRA in setting up a similar scheme, since there are specific provisions against such an eventuality in their agreements and regulatory texts. Having said that, policies and attitudes can always change.

One of the easier ways you may be able to do it yourself would be to setup a Canadian company, but usually you need a Canadian resident to act as a director.

http://www.cira.ca/en/documents/q3/...entsForRegistrants-EffectiveDateJune52003.pdf

Quoting from the above text:

"2. Canadian Presence Requirements. On and after November 8, 2000 only the following individuals and entities will be permitted to apply to CIRA (through a CIRA certified registrar) for the registration of, and to hold and maintain the registration of, a .ca domain name:

...

(d) Corporation. A corporation under the laws of Canada or any province or territory of Canada;"

One of the more difficult ones would be to become a successor to or a representative of the Queen: :]

"(m) Her Majesty the Queen. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second and her successors;

...

(p) Government. Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, a province or a territory; an agent of Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada..."

Your best bet may be to hook up with someone in Canada to fulfill residency requirements. Requirements for de. & .ca are different. Anybody can register a .de, it's just the admin contact that must be based in Germany (for legal and administrative reasons).

Not a wise decision...I did that and got a C&D for a name I didn't own.....not worth the hassle.

I think you are better off being legit about it and registering a Canadian company if you want to register .ca names. CIRA are very strict, they police the registry and I know there's been quite a few names seized back as I heard they are added to the pool.com auctions (for one) every week.
