Why get stocks when you can get a domain name?

Domain names are highly speculative investments and personally I think that it is good to buy a domain name for the fun of building a website and getting some low value .com at registration fee and give it value by investing your time into building something with it.

Alternatively, you can buy some good value domain names here at Namepros for a few hundred dollars that may one day be worth thousands.

I think this thread is great and have been looking into these investments myself.

I think this thread is for those who know there is a huge disturbance (read opportunity) coming in the domaining industry in the next few years. Trick is making the right judgement calls coming up. Building out a site takes another set of skills which not all are prepared to learn, though it can be fun to create soemthing that pays the bills every month!

I agree investing in stocks in the registrars is a smart way to hedge your bets and take some of the risk out of the upcoming market mess, so instead of just buying a bunch of .anything domains that have little chance of maintaining their value after the hype, it may be better to bet on the companies poised to make a killing off the speculators, and have access to the best domains to sell at retail prices. Even the .coms may have some temporary?? price corrections as the supply of a domain name left of the dot, is flooded onto the market with 1000 other options to the right of the dot.

So betting on the companies becomes a lot more predictable. Nothing is certain, but it makes sense to me.

Many-in-One: ISP, Domain Parking, Domain Marketplace, Domain Registrar, Web Hosting

United Internet AG (FRA:UTDI; ETR:UTDI) acts primarily via its wholly owned subsidiary 1&1 Internet AG, and Sedo Holding AG (FRA:SDO; ETR:SDO), in which it holds a majority stake.

  1. 1&1 Internet AG (www.1and1.com) offers hosting and domain registration. 1&1 has been notably active with the new gTLDs.
  2. Sedo Holding AG (www.sedo.com) offers domain parking, domain brokerage, and a domain marketplace.

Additional Information:
  • "1&1's parent company, United Internet, became one of the first web companies to go public" (source).
  • "United Internet AG has raised its stake in Sedo Holding to 96.05%... United Internet plans to integrate Sedo Holding’s affiliate and domain business into its overall business" (source).

Well, when GoDaddy goes public, we can all sit back and watch DMD go to $0 and Web.com Group come back down to earth.

This thread is about all domain-related investment opportunities; the new gTLDs are a subset of that. ;)
