we get this ad in australia and i just cringe at how stupid the thinking behind it is, remember someone is getting paid to think of this. I did try bookingyeah.com but it did not resolve when i last tried

Yeah :)
That slogan is not new at all.
I wonder how many people have been thinking it could be a URL, and actually typed it in their browser ;)

The least advertisers could do it put a WWW. in front of their dot-whatever, even if it is not necessary... (ideally a domain name should resolve with or without www.).
Then there is a chance that viewers will understand it is a URL and not just some stylized slogan like you said.

I'm sure it did cross peoples' minds whether 'booking dot yeah' was a web address or not. But the commercial did show the dot com first. But I'm certain that out of curiosity some did type in 'dot yeah'. The company didn't realize it, but this commercial sort of helped prime people for the new gTLDs.

Booking.com owns their 'Booking' brand almost under every CCTLD, and they are very aggressive about it. I sold four such booking.cctld for $40K in the past. Being a prestigious holder of the 'Booking' brand in more than 60 CCTLDs, that ad makes sense! :)

anyone who promotes a 'dot something' without owning it is dumb imo

Kinda reminds me of Apple's .Mac service, even before all this new TLD stuff folks were wondering if there was a new .mac tld

My boyfriend asked me the other day if Booking.yeah was a real domain. Told him no.

I just looked. It actually resolves now: Booking.yeah

Doesn't resolve for me...

Doesn't resolve for me either, maybe it requires an alternate root server.

Really? That's weird. It redirects Booking.yeah to Booking.com for me on the Firefox & Safari browser. Chrome & Opera redirects it to a Google search.

Using IE on my windows phone also redirects Booking.yeah to Booking.com.

If I do TiaWood.yeah, Firefox does not redirect it to my .com.

doesnt resolve for me either, but then why would it....dotyeah is not an extension.

New gTLDs come out: Forumites "nobody will know of these"
Booking.yeah advert: Forumites "this will confuse everybody that a new extension exists"

Cant have it both ways folks :P
