Blendwords are formed by taking a portion of two or more words, and concatenating them to create a new word. Examples are Brexit, Quitaly, Blog etc. Once I tried to create and popularise a few - Smutoon - but it never caught on, another one was Splinkie - a spammed link smilie. Has anybody else tried this, and registered the name to use the word?

While it may be a good idea to be creative, you will be spending lots of money waiting for an enduser that probably will never come. Its smarter to use an already existing blendword like Brexit and look ahead to a CAexit (California secession) or Texit (Texas secession) to get ahead of a trend.

I don't use facebook, but I get the feeling that active facebook members could probably create these words and give them some traction. If you wait for someone else to create the word, then you end up with choosing between keyphrases rather than keywords. An Italian guy seems to have grabbed Quitaly.com back in 2011. I didn't realise that Italy had been unhappy with the EU for so long.
