Hey everyone I am still new to the domain business and I am just curious how most of you go about selling your domains. Once you've purchased them do you try to turn them right away or do you hang onto them?

Also, do you advertise them on more then one site? Do you normally do auctions or BIN's?..Finally, what site(s) do you post them on and see the best results? Sedo? Ebay? Forums?...

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I use Sedo,TDNAM,Plesmo,Ebay,Forums and my website.
I use BIN,auctions and make offer depending on the situation.

Advantages of BIN:
The sale involves little work. Just wait until you receive an email saying the domain has sold.
Certain types of buyers have a preference for BIN
Fixed price gives a higher probability of a sale than none.

Advantages of Auction:
The time to sell a domain is fixed.
Auctions are often more successful at getting repeat customers.

Advantages of Make Offer:
Easier to maintain multiple listings of the same domain in multiple marketplaces.
You may get a greater than expected offer the first time.
More relevant for high sales as the sale often occurs after the seller has an opportunity to justify the reasons as to why the price is set at the given price.

I find that depending on the characteristics of the domain, the urgency in needing the money and other factors, different selling strategies are useful for different situations. People are always on this forum asking for some simple formula to maximise their selling success. Maybe there isn't one.

Have to agree with Vurg here, the best place to sell a domain is anywhere that puts it in front of someone that is willing to buy it. The best method is whatever gets the most money out of the potential buyer.
These two variables will really depend on the domain and what sort of time scale you are looking at. Best thing is to list them in as many places as you can, but beware if you are listing an asking price as in general as soon as someone offers over that figure it can be concidered a binding contract ( even if you have not accepted it ) .... If you get a similar offer on another site you end up with two contracts to two buyers :)

The other thing is to approach potential buyers directly, do a search on this site and you will find a ot of threads about that.

Best method is to try a lot of different things and find out what works FOR YOU.

Hope that helps a bit.

All the best.

Richard
