I was considering building my own mini sites and found a review that said XSitePro was the way to go.

Any thoughts what software to use?

wordpress, drupal, and any other could be the way to go.

If you want to build mini site without any database, you can choose xsitepro or dreamweaver. They are good tools to build mini site (without db)

If you want to use db, wordpress is a good choice.

I use wordpress to develop my domain. Wordpress is easy to use (for me , perhaps for many people). I don't need to know much about web programming.

if you don't have a lot of info about html , go with frontpage , if you got some experience in dev then Dreamweaver as suggested above, if you don't want to waste time, look at my sig , no need of dev or knowledge of coding all simple

I have used many software packages for website development and Joomla wins hands down...especially with additional templates...

this is one of my latest with the Nov Color Palette Template

Sorry, I'm going to ruffle a few feathers here. My preferred platform for minisites is notepad. You shouldn't need a Content Management System until you reach the point where you have enough content to need management. (More than ten or so pages.)

Sorry I'm sure this is obvious to all but me but what do you mean by database? I know what a database is in general of course but what sort of mini-site uses a database? Isn't it just 5 - 10 pages of content and ads?

some of them uses database to store the configuration and information witch is nice in case you like to change the look, info, configuration etc...

if it is one minisite, go for simple html pages.

Go for WP or joomla or others if you can spend time and effort in upgrading the site frequently. But for more paged site, this is worth the effort.

But if you are going for many minisites, go for drupal. You can run many sites from single code and single/multiple databases. So everytime there is a security upgrade, you need to upgrade only one place. Drawback of drupal is, not many solid themes available. But performance is great.

If you have no coding experience then i would just use straight up WordPress. You can turn out mini-sites under an hour if you get the hang of it. Updating is a breeze compared to html sites.

I recommend Joomla for mini-sites if you wanna do a little more than just have static content. Like community features ect..

As the minisite king ,what do I use.
90% Joomla! - a CMS is THE best way to do minisites, Drupal/ {Insert CMS of your choice}. With practice and using a few simple tips, creating a simple minisite is easily done.
I would never had attempted creating 100's of minisites without using Joomla!
(Over 350 Joomla! minisites completed to date)
8% WordPress - When the minisite is to be mainly used as a BLOG or as Ross said in a hurry

2% other (Custom Scripts - For special applications)

Blaknite -
NotePad is a barely acceptable solution for writing small notes.
It is NOT a very useful solution for use as a HTML/CSS EDITOR.
If your choice for a small minisite is using HTML/CSS, than at least make your life easier by using a Proper HTML Editor. I use SeaMonkey (Mozilla)
