The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
@comRaid Please can you give an example so I understand your question better?
I do not want to hijack the thread. Asked this question as Samer mentioned "But end-users using noncom, are golden".
Suppose "brandable.net" is in a successful business for last 3 years. They never bothered to register Trade Mark. And as per trade mark law, registration is not mandatory to claim trade mark. Now, if I register "brandable.com" from an expired list and try to reach brandable.net to sell it, am I putting myself in trouble ?

@comRaid your post would suggest that the answer is yes. Domain police will want to know what your intention was in registering the name. If you contact a company like brandable.net with brandable.com it's pretty clear what your intention was. I'm not a legal expert so maybe I'm wrong. In this situation I would set up a website for an entirely different industry. Then contact the company to say you need to raise funds and you're selling your valuable domain and have found a suitable alternative. This would show domain police a whole different set of intentions on your part. These are just ideas.

@biggie I have spent a great deal of time learning and testing out different people's suggestions. Now it's time to follow one checklist. My head has got too full with ideas. I need just one direction (but not the band).

I would base criteria from seo suggested results over the topic suggested although close. I have sites to analyse your sites.

@lock I compiled the list from limited experience but mainly from Namepros threads, quick Google search and a Namepros member sent me a private message.

Yap! I agree with your list but some of the items like 8,9 and 10 are not possible for .com new reg domains but as you said they can be useful for other extensions but not quite ok for new reg .com. Like knowing the traffic for new handreg .com is no longer possible.
Though I stand to be corrected on those items I litsed if anyone can correct me.

In addition; rarity of the related keyword can also be of advantage for new regs

Thanks for your imputs for new bies like me on handregs

Cheers

@lock valuation.site I love it. Edit: This gave me the idea to check usage of the social media not just if they are taken but how they are being used. Thanks for sharing. I've added it to my checks.

do the words make sense in standard English?

Hi

if,
the words make sense,
then they might make cents
and that is,
common sense.

is it sensible,
to invest in non .com
with limited budget
and unknown hold time, for such.
maybe, but not much

is search volume relevant,
for new idea, concept or creation?

imo...

@biggie I only go after names with search volume. It's like a safety rail if the "for sale" was a fail I can get out of jail and prevail full-scale on the development trail or with advertisements sent by email. Perfect portfolio is 10 or 20 developed sites with ads and 20 or 30 high quality names on sale. 50 names in total.

I can't afford to spend more than $ 50 for domain name acquisitions at this stage. It's something of an arbitrary amount but there it is. Still $ 50 is $ 50 and I hate the idea of registering a name and not making at least a 1000 % profit in whatever form that takes. $ 500 return on $ 50 investment again it's an arbitrary sum also it's achievable. Therefore my three most important questions are first is it .com, co.uk, .org, .org.uk extensions? second do the words make sense in standard English? third is it searched at least 10000 times each month on google? Ideally 200000 times. I can negotiate with myself on all the other points but I need a yes to each of the leading three questions.

Hi

that is true, depending on how you do

but when i started, majority of items on that list weren't even being considered.

one went for .com first and other things were based on common sense choices or decisions.

back then, you didn't know if a domain had traffic, unless it had overture score with extension included.
so, how can one put it on the list today, when you don't know if an unregistered name will get traffic?

sometimes i think, newbies get bombarded with too many metrics to check, some of which you can't verify or validate.

imo...
You keep going on gut @biggie but that's not the purpose of this thread.
