In my efforts to learn more about buying and selling domains, I'm looking for a course/ebook to learn from. However, I'm not having much luck. Everything seems to be either outdated or doesn't look as if it's very good quality .:(

Can anyone recommend a course, ebook, website that has helped them?

Thanks in advance!

Lesson 1

Everything that a domainer tries to sell you in the form of an e-book or guide is usually totally $hit.

Lesson 2

The information is around NP and DNF if you just read a bit.

People like blogs too - for whatever reason there are some that are liked more than others. Based on what others say: DomainSherpa / Morgan Linton / Domain Shane / TheDomains I think are likely the best for just getting a feel for things.

I find DomainSherpa annoying as hell. Morgan Linton a bit blah... but I've yet to be overly annoyed by Shane. Elliot can be amusing/annoying...

I actually only ever really read TheDomains.com because it covers stuff, Mr Berkens is smart, and the comments are amusing.

Remember, those who sell ebooks etc. probably keep the best secrets for theirselves. You might learn 90% of what is important about domaining but its that 10% that you need to really make money. And that can only be learned through experience during a longer period of time.

Actually i don't agree that all ebooks are crap. Most probably are though.
I remember when i started domaining (before even joining any forum), i bought an ebook from ebay (i think it was from Empiredomains) for 30 Dollars or so, and after reading it, i actually REALLY made some money on ebay without having any loss. I sold all of my domains above regfee . So i think at that time, it was well invested money. I wouldn't buy it today but it was ok for the beginning. That guy actually really told us exactly what he was doing. Problem was, hundreds of people bought that ebook and then ebay was flooded with similar offers and basically the same template, too many offers and basically we ruined eachother on ebay lol

Today its even harder than before. Not only on ebay but everwhere.

I agree with others, Forums and Blogs are the best resources. You have to spend some time and read a lot.

edit:

ahh here is that Empiredomains guy haha

http://myworld.ebay.com/empiredomains/

as you can see that all stopped few years ago..

Lesson 3
Domaining is not easy, that's why you have people who sell picks and shovels to the gold diggers rather than mine for gold themselves.

The best course is probably to read the forums for a few months, a few selected blogs too.
Read read read.

Domainer Linguistics 201 Pronunciation ... it might not seem like it but you can pronounce ANY four letter combination with enough creative license.

Lesson 4
Remember 99.9% of good domains are gone in the major TLD's (.com, .net, .org, .co.uk, .de). Sure sometimes someone pulls a rabbit out of the hat but these cases are rare and you will be much better of investing your time and money in the drops and aftermarket.

Select and buy only domains you truly believe in and LIKE! You will have a lot easier time if you buy based on what you want rather than trying to guess what others will want. Have a vision for each name and commit some time to making that vision happen on a regular basis. Not saying that you have to develop every name you get but you should have a vision for it. You will have more success trying to improve the value of your current names than in trying to grab at straws and flip low end garbage. Time is your most valuable asset.

Totally agree with GiftedDomains on the issue of only being able to learn 90% of what you need to succeed from ebooks and online courses. Especially in the IM world, you need to understand that secrets aren't revealed easily, and if they are, they usually come in a nice little template or blueprint that may seem almost turn-key. But not many products actually teach you the core aspects of how things work to give you the power to keep ahead of the rest by formulating your own solutions, instead of relying on others. Turn-key solutions stop being as effective once too many people know about it, and that's why by the time these products get released, the creators would have already started on a new method to stay ahead. And again, that could only be done when you understand the "bare bones" of the field and have the experience to piece it all together and move forward from it with your creativity.

As others have advised, read...read...and read some more--both paid and free resources. It won't take long before you start seeing a pattern. Follow that pattern, test out your ideas and theories, fail, then try again. Keep a clear mind while doing all this, and most importantly, don't lose your common-sense! Lol. After all, IM isn't some alien entity that doesn't follow logic and reason. It's still a real business, but on a different platform. That's all.

If you really want to spend some money on learning, I suggest you get a mentor and participate in a 1-on-1 coaching program. That way, you can ask the hell out of your coach and squeeze all the knowledge you need out of them, LOL. And since you're paying so much for the program, they would usually want you to succeed. Just be sure to find a reliable and trusted coach.:)

Back to ebooks and courses on domains though, have you come across Phil Craig's Quick Cash Domaining? It seems like it might be outdated, but I'm still curious to learn what the guy has to teach. The course has many training videos in it apparently. Guess I got sucked into his sales copy.:D

Domainer Ethics:
The foolishness of registering dead celebrity names, tragedy-related names, squatting on someone else's business/life/misfortune just because you can, blatant price-gouging (unreasonably jacking up the price of a crap domain you would have gladly dumped for $1 last week because someone actually wants to use it for something) and similar behavior. Examines the effect on your future sales attempts, when it causes you (and the entire industry) to be viewed by many non-domainers as a life form slightly lower than this.
Should be taken in conjunction with Domainer Intellectual Property Law 101 and Domainer Psychology in order to fully understand all topics covered.
