Auction: IndieBandRadio.com - Unsigned Rock Radio Station (PR5)

Since I had a few people interested in my for sale thread but none came through, I figured I would start an auction type thread.

Quick Info:
Domains: indiebandradio.com, indiebandradio.net, indiebandradio.org.
Search Engine: Yahoo has 103 pages. Google has 1,270 results, MSN has 473 results.
Traffic: 1,000 unique/month average (click - webalizer only ran once so far this month)
Community Members: Nearly 1,800
Forum Statistics: 11,885 posts
Revenue: Making around $65 a month as of January, stopped running ads when I decided to sell. I'm sure that can be increased by anyone with more ad placement knowledge than myself.
System: Based on PHP-Nuke 7.6 with Nuke Patched 3.1. I will include the old layout before I switched to a content management system as well in case nuke isn't your bag.
Asking (BIN): $3,000
Google PageRank (homepage): 5
Min. Increase: $20
Starting Bid: $300
Ending: April 7th
Promotion: Direct traffic from MegaRockRadio.com (#3 rock station on shoutcast), Google, hundreds of posts around the net, local posters at buildings, vinyl bumper stickers given out/sold.
Directory listings: Virtually every media directory you'll find. Windows Media radio tuner, I-Tunes radio directory, Winamp Media Library, Shoutcast.com

Old post, includes full details on everything included. This DOES include all the hardware needed, as well as the music, and the streaming servers which used to run me around $72 a month. They're sponsored now, so free without warranty.

After over two years of operating IndieBandRadio, I've decided that at this point, I need to move on to other projects. In January 2004, the idea for IndieBandRadio was drawn up, and the station launched later that month.

It was originally a feature of BandsThrivingOnFans.net, eventually gaining popularity, I decided to make it an independent website. On February 11th, we celebrated the two year launch of IndieBandRadio, and I feel that at this point I have developed the station to the best of my abilities. I am looking for a responsible person that will be able to continue IBR down the path of success. I'll describe what all goes with the station at the bottom.

The site was started as a radio show and quickly became a 24/7 station. The audience kept growing and within months IBR was the #1 station playing only unsigned music via SHOUTcast streaming audio server. We still rank #1.

IndieBandRadio receives approximately 1000 unique visitors per day. Full stats are available at www.indiebandradio.com/stat . Community is just under 2 thousand members. The Webalizer system that keeps track of the traffic seems rather jittery and runs every two weeks, so use last month's traffic until it finishes its run for March. Webalizer wasn't installed for the month of january, hence no stats.

IndieBandRadio is listed in the I-Tunes directory, Windows Media Directory, and publicized in hundreds of other places. A google search for linking pages to the indiebandradio.com domain alone returns 51 pages of results (Click to see). Streaming servers will be available for free use, unguaranteed. IBR has sponsored streams. The current server can handle around 800 listeners at 128kbps (based on available bandwidth, once again, no guarantees). Listener counts in a week range from 40 unique listeners to 220 unique listeners.

Included in the sale of IndieBandRadio:

Domains:
indiebandradio.com
indiebandradio.net
indiebandradio.org

The IndieBandRadio MySpace will also be included. It currently has 734 friends. http://www.myspace.com/indiebandradio.

Site/Content:
Entire content from IBR, as well as the entire version of IndieBandRadio before the last design change. All coding, files, will be transferred to you. Hosting is your responsibility, my server is available at no charge for a short time after the sale.

Installed Software (removed if you request):
SpacialAudio SAM 2.8.3 Broadcaster
MySQL Server
Windows XP Professional
MP3Tag/MP3Gain
Misc. Debugging/AntiSpyware programs.

Hardware:
I can send the entire computer or just the hard drives. IndieBandRadio is run on a server on my own line, and the MySQL for it is there as well. The computer's hardware is not impressive, however I have achieved nearly 6 months uptime on it.
Compaq Presario 5000 Series, 256MB RAM, 700mhz Pentum 3 Processor, 10GB Primary Drive (holds operating system and MySQL files), 20GB secondary drive (holds music)

Music/Documentation:
Just under 1000 songs from indie artists. Release forms are available upon request for most bands. I have hundreds upon hundreds of CDs sent from both bands we added and bands we didn't. These can be shipped, though unless you're planning a genre widening, the rejected CDs aren't of much use.

I will consider all offers, however please keep in mind; I have spent thousands of hours on the station and have put over two years worth of effort into it. Contact me for more details on anything, I can accept money orders (will be held until they clear), Credit Cards via Paypal, or Paypal money transfer.

PM or post if you're interested or have any questions.

A $3,000 buy it now may seem pricey, however, coding for radio stations is what I do. I charge other stations $25/hour for working on their sites. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours on IndieBandRadio, and there is so much developed code included that interfaces with SAM broadcaster.. well, good luck hiring someone to do it all and developing such an active community for that price. Spacialaudio.com (the official site for SAM Broadcaster) charges $65 an hour for web development as well.

Edited (at 5:48PM CST) I'm looking for at least $1300, consider that a reserve.

When I go to the stats page at:

www.indiebandradio.com/stat

It says megarockradio.com at the top.

Ummm, which is it?

It's IndieBandRadio.com. If you ping megarockradio, and then IBR, you'll see we're both on the same server. Megarock's stats are separate click. He runs the server though, I assume when he copied the stats over to run on my domain he just didn't change the domain name.

Then why does it say "Usage Statistics for megarockradio.com" ? it should say "Usage Statistics for indiebandradio.com" as its done by http lookup ip...

As I said, I don't run the webserver. Looking in my stat directory, the index file has the domain in it. That file is generated by webalizer. I just manually changed the name in the file, but of course when it runs again it will be overwritten.

You can always just see the default PHP-Nuke statistics module for IBR here. Sorry for the confusion.

Dan, usually have to just refresh when that happens. That's the site having trouble connecting to the song database (hosted in my home, connecting the DJ software to a database that isn't local lags up the process.). A refresh should solve that.

THe streams are not loading for me, says invalid network resource. The error was trying to contaxt megarockradio..

I don't know why it would contact megarockradio when connecting to my streaming server. I have my streamhosting at an entirely different place. As far as not being able to connect, see the latest news post. Sadly, the streamhosting not being guaranteed applies to myself as well. Just my luck ;)

Droplister,

The website as well as the PHP-Nuke database is run on the main webserver. Assuming the webserver you'll want to run it on doesn't have enough bandwidth to host the streams, you'll have to get a separate streaming server. ViaStreaming offers 100 128k listener slots for $72/month. After talking, I was able to get them down to $65/month with 10 free 24k slots (for dialup listeners).

You don't necessarily have to have that many slots, but I like to have a little extra for peak hours.

SAM Broadcaster and the mySQL database it runs from need to be located on the same computer. It is possible to run SAM Broadcaster on the webserver, should you have the proper access to run it.

You can check out SAM at www.spacialaudio.com, screenshots and all. It's got a little learning curve, but once you figure out basic configuration, it automates the music for you.

As far as the amount of bandwidth required, that's a matter of what you can afford to spend. If you only wanted 20 slots at whatever bitrate, you could do that. After 20 listeners, anyone trying to connect would get a server full error and wouldn't be able to connect while it's full.

There's a neat bandwidth usage calculator here. You could probably get a decent number of listeners on 20, or even 10 mbit server (at least until you get ad revenue coming in from the site again and can upgrade).

I'll make a post whenever the server comes back up.. first time it's been down in a few months :td:

i have a dedicated server with all the access i need, and 1000 gigs bandwidth, 100 mb line. Sound like enough?

If my math is right, 1000gigabytes of transfer would serve around 25 constant connections at 128kbps :( I could always get whomever wants the site in touch with AdeptHosting.co.uk, I'm sure for more extensive advertising he'd keep providing the servers for free. He originally wanted to start hosting SC streams but decided to stay with webhosting, he told me he'd keep hosting me until he didn't have enough bandwidth to spend on my streams anymore (he's still just letting me use free space). Your bandwidth limit (100MB) would be plenty, that's what the streams are currently on.
