.at Expiration?

I had this .at domain I traded for with a NP member, registered at EuroDNS. I let it expire on 29/04/2007. However, the domain was still active today (still resolved to a parking page until I took it down a few minutes ago). It still shows as "taken" in the WHOIS record.

Note: .at is the CCTLD of Austria.

This morning, I received a email from Nic.at, as follows.

*** English version ***

Dear Madam or Sir!

nic.at is the official registration and administration office for .at-domains.

Your Internet service provider is no longer invoice recipient for your domain XXXXXXXXXXXX.at.
Unless you tell us a new invoice recipient the billing will be transfered to you as domain holder.
In case the provider is not hosting the nameserver any longer, we will contact you.

Please note that this is NOT the cancellation of your domain.
If you haven't cancelled your domain yet, your contract with us will remain active.

The domain has disappeared from my EuroDNS account already. I'm confused, can other owners of .at domains tell me more about the drop process? Do I need to explicitly tell them to drop my domain? >:(

This is of interest to be because I am planning on letting a handful drop in summer (also with EuroDNS).

You email suggests that the registry still see you as the legal owner as you've not cancelled, and want you to find a new provider to pay the fee for you (with you paying them) or they will charge you this fee.

From nic.at:

A domain can be cancelled at any time. Please note that it is important to cancel at least four weeks before the beginning of the next service period. Otherwise the domain fee will be charged for another year and must be paid despite the cancellation.

I'm a little confused as to whether or not you have to inform the registry too- anyone have experience of this?

Did you get a email like this from NIC.at? More importantly, what happened next? What did you do, and did they send you an invoice?

I've heard some of the Namepros admistrators have owned .at domains before (Was that you -RJ-?). Don't be shy, please share your knowledge. :hehe: Thank you very much.

I've just received a letter from nic.at

We are sending you this invoice for the domain(s) listed below.
The bill is to be paid for one year in advance by the due date. Should payment not be forthcoming, the domain registration may be cancelled and the domain be re-allocated to a third party.

Should this happen, the demands for payment will still be valid and nic.at may enforce legal measures to retrieve the due amount. Please note that you are responsible for all bank charges. Please enter the invoice number when paying by bank transfer.
