The reason could be

The reasons for it could be:

1. Insisting on too many formalities (like application).

2. The sale is not finalized immediately it takes a long time to process.

3. cost of the domain seems comparing to of the domains.

4. The restrictions of participation in the purchase of domains.

Let us hope the best let the prize come down and let it sell more.

I think that's because NetNames is a european company. They have much more european clients than asian clients.

From a Eurodns email

The .Asia Landrush start is a huge success with 300,000 Domain Applications within the first 24 hours (see DotASIA's Press-release), and there is still 20 days to go!

you're missing the other point that the extension itself is poorly conceived. People in asia do not consider themselves part of asia in the same way people in europe consider themselves part of the .eu, i.e. asia is in no way a unified body, the word 'asia' is not even familiar to many people living there. The extension is 4 letters long- rubbish. i can't see it ever taking off outside of a small spree amongst domainers.

Agreed.

Plus "eu" represents "Europe" in a very large number of European languages.

"asia" represents the continent in how many Asian countries? 1? 2?

Not supporting or bashing the .asia extension but I'm just curious where you get that idea from Gingeman? :)

I have an .in site , and the information is relevant to visitors from Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other parts of South Asia. So for targetting all these people, .asia makes sense.
It is not very relevant to North America or Europe, due to differences in living standards and other factors.

imo, .in will still be better than .asia if you target the same visitor from the same area in asia>.<

.asia is kinda long

.asia is kinda long

I have visitors from South Asia ( outside India), asking if the information is relevant to them and not India specific only since the domain is a .in . If my site is .asia, I will not face this problem

but asia has far more population than europe, with more countries, languages and cultures. GDP is also getting higher and higher.

Its not how many people regged .asia, but who in particular did. I think it will be more telling to see which big names (individuals and companies) did or didn't participate.

.asia is really an necessary extension because all Asian countries as far as I know already have a cctld, china .cn, Australia .com.au etc and hardly anyone in a country like Australia is ever going to use the tld as they already have .com.au and it would be no different to a county like Japan or New Zealand. In saying that though I think it will have it's uses and I will invest in a few domains before they go public.
