They say 60% of jobs will be supplanted by automation within decades, putting an enormous strain on the unskilled labour market.
With the economy already in an uneasy place, propped up by short-sighted schemes and unsustainable enterprises...do you guys think a.i. will usher in a Star Trek-like world where technology enhances society or will it inevitably come into a have and have-not situation?
Stephen Hawking....Ray Kurzweil (re: Singularity)...they see (and saw) what's coming and it'll be beyond our wildest dreams. Essentially, they'll do all the thinking for us. The a.i., that is.
Showcase your domain here as we all jockey into position to welcome the artificial intelligence age.
Give your thoughts.
I believe it'll single-handedly change the nature of warfare. Volunteer armies have to pony up a lot of incentives for people to risk their lives fighting, and the general public has become queasy about meddling into dramas.
Any country who seizes the capabilities of an unmanned army, navy, and airforce could simply wage war without putting human lives on the line. That critical deterrence simply evaporates.
Why else do you figure the major powers are locked into an a.i. race? Because they know whomever develops the droids faster will seize the greatest amount of capability and thus power. What we are witnessing is the greatest and most sophisticated arms race in the history of mankind.
Just remember, what I just wrote would be quantified, scrutinized, analyzed (intention, tone, logic, psychology, grammar, etc.), and countered or supported with a logical argument by an a.i. program within seconds. Our biochemical brains are simply too archaic to match what incredible power a.i. will unleash.
Quantum computing + cloud + artificial intelligence programming will spell the end of our hubris as the so-called "masters of the world."
