Phrozt: The thing I'm wondering is whether or not it needs to be current with registerfly

Phrozt: no.. it says "pending current registrar approval" at the registrat I'm trying to transfer to, meaning that it is pending your approval...
Marcelino: Did you approve the e-mail that the new registrar send you to proceed with the transfer?
Phrozt: There is no email for that.. they are waiting on you
Phrozt: this is exactly what I've done.
Phrozt: I paid for a transfer at my new registrar for this domain
Phrozt: I initiated the transfer, which created an email from the new registrar to me for an authorization ID and code.
Phrozt: I input those two at my new registrar
Marcelino: Then double check because is already pending transfer and is waiting for the owner approval.
Phrozt: that registrar then prompted me for the authorization code for my domain
Phrozt: which I got from you guys
Phrozt: After I put that in, the status now says "waiting for current registrar approval"
Phrozt: meaning I did my part, so I need you guys to push it through
Phrozt: I've recieved no emails since the last step
Marcelino: Check the whois and it will tell you Pending Transfer. Double check with other registrar and they will tell you peding owner approval.
Marcelino: Once it shows in the whois Peding Transfer, the registrars are waiting for you to approve it.
Phrozt: how am I supposed to do that?

What this does not show is the time wasted.

I left all of the crap at the beginning, because that was to show that it took about an hour and a half to even reach someone.

The conversation took about half an hour total.. and as you can see.. they just died off at the end.... with no response.

He helped you to the best of his ability, who knows if he was correct (I'm not involved in the transfer so I don't know) - what's the problem? If he can't help you any further what's there to say?? He already told you what he thought was wrong - what do you want? Blood?

Not to mention that last line from you - what do you want him to say?! You already told him, in no uncertain terms, that you didn't want to continue the conversation. You think he should go out of his way to continue trying to help you, even though he's said all he can and you just told him you were finished...? Jeez!

So what if you had to wait half an hour.... try emailing them or any other registrar, you'll wait 8 hours+. If they're all busy what do you want them to do? Magically grow an extra pair of hands just so they can answer you?

Try waiting 3 weeks for a domain parking service to respond, 1 week for a registrar to respond on the most basic query or the best part of a month for an inept registrar to come to a dumb decision. Then you can be pissed off.

I wish I could get an answer from a registrar, or any other company in fact, in just half an hour!

Phrozt - that is the way registrar transfers work. There is really nothing the loosing registrar can do. When you approve the transfer it is then sent to the registry operator, who in this case is PIR. PIR then changes the status and notifies the loosing registrar, RegFly. (Last Updated On:20-Nov-2006 16:51:09 UTC) With just about ALL transfers the loosing registrar then flags the domain to automatically complete within the given time period of five days unless the owner contests the transfer.
So your transfer will complete automatically on 25-Nov-2006. In some cases the loosing registrar will allow you to complete the transfer prior to the five day period. This generally comes in an email which notifies of the transfer and offers you the choice to decline. In SOME cases I have seen a check box to also "AGREE/ACCEPT" the transfer, so check your email.

As to your DNS issue, once a domain Status is "PENDING TRANSFER", all modifications to name servers, or contact information is prohibited.

I hope this helps with the next transfer you place. ALWAYS update the name servers prior to the move.

Why don't you just contact Dream Host and have them update your A and MX records? .. actually .. you probably have this via your CP with them.

Your issue seems to be more with your registrar you are transferring into rather than the one you are transferring out of.

Registerfly = current registrar
Godaddy = registrar to move my domains to
dreamhost = hosting provider

I initiated the transfer through godaddy (of course). I followed their instructions to complete things on their side, then they asked for my auth code, which I obtained from my whois client info found within registerfly. Since I put in my auth code, I've recieved no more emails from either regfly or godaddy.

Unfortunately, you have "upgraded" to a slighty better crummy registrar. GD doesn't have as bad of problems as RF, but GD isn't a whole lot better.

Always amazes me how people have problems with the company yet I never do. Do some of you just have bad luck or something?

Knock on wood! (No better way to bring problems on yourself than pointing out that you currently don't have any ;) )

OP: This really does seem to be your issue... Have you not transferred names to GoDaddy before? There is almost always a 2-3 day window when the status is "waiting for current registrar approval" or something to that effect - which if you read the email you get from registerfly (Well, you did admit you didn't have your email correctly updated) will say that the domain will transfer at _____ date, that's to give everyone a safe-harbor period.

In any event, they have transfer issues, admittedly, but this is your issue, your problem, not theirs...

After talking to several people that I respect in the domain world about their experience with this company and through recent developments with the ccTLD BE registered through Registerfly, I no longer have the opinion that user error is completely at fault to the wave of problems at this fraudulent company. I do not want anyone to be burned by this company on my recommendation. Therefore, all posts that suggest that Registerfly can be used safely (if you pay attention to details) are being deleted. Sorry folks, I was wrong to defend them. Even if everything is done absolutely correctly, you have a good chance of losing your company through no fault of you own, if you leave any important domains with this company. If you screw something up, that chance increases dramatically. So for both the professionals (those with long time experience with buying and managing domains) and for newbies (those with only one or two) this company is a risk to your property. My apologies to anyone who I mislead into believing you could work safely at Registerfly with a little experience. Under no condition keep any important domain at this company.

I had this lack of acceptance notification e-mail from regfly just happen to me; turns out the email was sent correctly, but my system put it into the spam folder. Found it and all is well.

diddie, I've not had any problems changing DNS at regfly after figuring it out...it's sort of misleading.

Actually, my email had nothing to do with it. I was referring to the expiration notice not being recieved. Before I initiated the transfer, I updated my email so that I would receive all relevant info.

And yes, the domain is now with GD.... want to know why?? My bitching got through to them and ***they*** (being my "current registrar" at the time) sent me an email to authorize... which was the reason I had contacted support in the first place.

Once they finally did their part, I could finish my part.


And btw.. if you think godaddy is bad, you should check them out again. They've made a TON of improvements including a completely new user CP for domains (hosting CP is still the same and sucks). I'm pretty impressed w/them in terms of domains. Not so much w/their hosting... but their domain services are nice.
