Are paying for bookmarks cost effective?

You launch a product/niche mini-site with the keyword in the domain that doesn't get any natural/type-in traffic and you put up a mini-site.

Do you believe that paying for social bookmarks (to generate traffic directly from the sites their posted and indirectly through search engine placement) would be a profitable investment? And if so, how much do you spend on social bookmarks per site?

Stumble can deliver

Stumbleupon can deliver some decent daily traffic so some social sites are useful for real traffic. Stumble attracts a more consumer crowd. Other social sites did not come anywhere near the same traffic levels but they had SEO benefits.

Getting links to your site will absolutely help your site get ranked. As to how much you should spend? that's all up to your budget. I've had some clients spend 10k per month getting links to their site and they make 100k per month by doing this. And on the flipside, some clients only spend $500 per month, but they see enough ROI that it works for them.

From an seo perspective, SB links are ok, but you should have links coming from all types of sites just in case Google decides to adjust the algorithm (which they will) once SB links become to important in the search rankings.
