Hello everyone,

Back with a weird one. Truthfully I didn't even know there was a .cards extension until about a month ago, but it got me thinking. Baseball cards, pokemon cards and numerous other collectible cards are really starting to make a comeback. The appraisal market is booming. For example my brother had a Kobe rookie card appraised and certified and he paid 5k for just the appraisal. Name.com was running a 8.99 special for .card domains so I figured I would take a chance on it.

Do you see any value in this? I would say this Is a very self explanatory name which could help? I know ".Cards" is an incredibly unknown extension.

As always all opinions are appreciated and encouraged.

Thanks!

For someone that loves cards (me), I should be on your side here

Those that want appraisals / grading go to PSA or Beckett - Always. They are the standard that is recognised in the market. A little like how GIA are the standard (one of them) recognised for diamonds, then you compete with GIA? It won't end well ...nobody cares. People get GIA, like people get PSA or Beckett - Its the done thing

Besides that, regarding proper appraisals / grading of cards ...centering, corners, edges, surface and more. All of which individually scored. You can't just come into this business and do it. You need the right tools, and so on. Its another level

I have been in the sports card market for a long time...$5k for an appraisal? Your brother got scammed.

In the sports card market you get cards graded by third parties, then the free market determines the value.

Paying for an appraisal is like paying for a domain appraisal.

The only reason to need an appraisal would be for something like an insurance policy.

Although I appreciate your completely unwarranted opinion on something I was not asking, you as a “person who has been in the sports card market game for a long time” should know that grading and appraisals with a value of the card over 10k often cost substantially more to be graded. In this case a Kobe rookie 1/3 gem mint was appraised at over 100k. An quick google search will support these costs for appraisals.

That is not an appraisal, that is a grading service (PSA in this case).

You are paying for them to assign a grade and encase the card, not an appraisal.

"Appraise cards" is not really a term that is used, in fact the term is available to hand register in .com.

Something like graded.cards would be a lot better, and still not that great.
