Curious if anyone had anything good, bad or indifferent to say about Admob (or other similar services). I went to the AdMob site, and the video tour, while short, is pretty slick.

I guess there are really two issues here:

1. Is it worth it to fill up an already small screen with PPC ads that that could easily come across as spammy or distracting?

2. If PPC ads can be done in a tasteful, unobtrusive manner, what's the best ad company to go with?

Thanks in advance for any input,

MM

Yes MM, I use them as do many others. Also check out the newly launched adbid.mobi.

Yes, they are very good to drive traffic. Bidding rate is as low as $0.02. CTR is also high.

But they don't have budget control like google does, so it can eat up your budget very quickly. Last time I filled $100, it was gone in one day.

So using Admob is very effective driving traffic but also very expensive.

I have a post on several different mobile ad companies:

I have used admob to advertise and do use them on my lyp.mobi site. I don't get incredible ctr, but did in fact ditto the experience of hedgefund. Actually, I discovered that the traffic was outside of my requested area so I got a refund. I wasn't totally crazy about it, but the traffic did arrive.

Good luck.

I have been using admob for my site dir.mobi for last 5 months and I am happy with their service. If you limit the ads to maybe 1 or 2 per page then it should be ok.

Only thing I am concered about is that I don't want some ads ( adult/gambling etc) to appear on my site. Admob does have option to remove those, but I just don't have time to monitor and approve each and every ad.

I appreciate all the responses--I agree about not wanting adult or gambling ads on my geo mobis, but other than that, AdMob sounds pretty good. I'll look into the removal option. Thanks again!

Unfortunately, some adult-ish type ads still creep through even if you choose to turn it off. And vcool is absolutely right. Don't even bother with selecting the "e-mail for approval" option. The process is painfully slow and your box will get flooded with hundreds of e-mails, one for each ad.
