Hi All,

So pretty much some domain registrars will provide you with a proxy to register a name..

Trying to figure out how the privacy works.. If it's partial privacy, just for your physical address or just for your email address.

Saw this on the gandi site and not quite sure what it means..

Thanks...

Assigning: .DE domain names are reserved to physical and moral persons that reside in Germany, or that have an administrative contact (physical person) that has a residence in Germany (other than a PO box). If you do not fulfill this requirement, Gandi can provide you with a proxy for free
Syntax: from 3 to 63 alphanumeric characters or a hyphen (excluding in the first and last place)
IDN: yes
Registration period: 1 year
Third-level domain: no
Whois privacy: yes, by the registry for anyone (only telephone and fax numbers and email adresse of the owner and the administrative contact)

For .de domains, unless the registrant resides in Germany, the admin contact must be resident in Germany. You need a local address for legal service only. So many registrars will provide with your their contact for free or for a fee.
It's not privacy. It's not a proxy. The registrant can be anywhere in the world, as long as there is an appointed local admin contact.

Thanks Kate,

So their email address appears on the whois info or yours..?

It depends on the contact type. Your E-mail address may not show, but name, address etc will be visible in whois. Trying doing a whois lookup on a .de for an example.

AFAIK there is no whois privacy for .de domains
