I have:
747jet.com
747jumboJet.com

Of course they don't include the maker 'Boeing' in the name, and I checked and neither of these names are trademarked, neither is 'jumbo jet' (which I don't own).
Still, it's sketchy area being the name/designation of a 'product'; does anyone have knowledge of whether this pair of names is reasonably safe from legal action or not? My research says I'm safe, but would like to cast for more experienced opinions.

Thanks
Bannen

Tough one really. Boeing may never have registered 747 as a mark. You may need to do more searches. imho (totally opinion) these names should be ok...

Of course products are trademarked, but unless you're manufacturing and selling jets on the site, I doubt you'd run into any problems. Sounds reasonably safe from my perspective.

Thanks for the input. I think everyone is as sketchy as me on this :)

It feels okay though, since, as I mentioned, I did trademark searches for my dn's and for jumbo jet and there are none.
Over and out.

Thanks; yup, I should have checked just the '747', is indeed live tm. Didn't think to check just a number, any more than I would have thought to check 2010 for tm, or 007. Huh.
Now I know. I'll decide to drop the name, or sit on it & wait for the possible c&d.

Esay lesson here....

If you say a word or some type of phrase and it brings to mind a certain product or service, rest assured it is a TM....

Let say (for example), you hear 747, what is the first thing that pops into your head? (just like billioins of other people, we think jets).

So the short is, you are infringing on Boeings mark.

Philip's point was what I was going at (In so many words) with my Google link above.

Basically, uspto.gov is great, but by no means a sufficient search in order to establish a lack of any TM rights. Google is my fastest way of checking to see how the cards will fall - and in this case, a search for "747" results almost exclusively in Boeing product results.

Got it.

All good points.

I generally don't deal with TM names as a 'karma' thing. Don't know what changed that this weekend, but now am feeling more sane - or is it less tired - and it feels right to drop these names, for the sheer goodwill. They'll be gone by day's end.

That's all the help I needed. Thanks again. Thread ended.

***Edit: both names now dropped.
