Hi there,

Ah, this is old question, but I am thinking of hosting a forum but do not know which hosting I should choose.
I know blog doesn't need a lot of space and bandwidth, but I heard I need to be more careful about forum since they can eat space and bandwidth kind of fast, not to mention some mentions to me that forum usually make the server load heavy.

I don't know if they are true or not, but the bottom line is, I am looking around.

Thanks for replies.

Depends on how many visitors you will be expecting simultaneously. If you have more users at a time it will cause problems. For tiny forums you can choose shared hosting with out any doubt.

You shouldn't get into any problem since your forum will be new. Just make sure that your new host has got a solid support team. However, as you keep growing, just upgrade to the higher plan. And when you over-grow your shared hosting, simply go for VPS...and then for dedicated server.

a shared hosting will do for now...but look for overselling hosts....lil overselling is fine and a standard practice.... but watch for a lot of it ... coz thn ur account could be terminated without warning.....

What forum software is needed to be hosted?

you can start with any decent shared hosting plan. it takes time to kickstart a forum and start getting decent traffic. once you start the growth, you can do a projection as to by when you will maximize your space and bandwidth. you plan on moving to a virtually dedicated or dedicated server at that time

I think that you will be happy with any decent LAMP host.
But some of web hosts have one click installation with their shared accounts.
So first of all decide on forum software and then do search in google for "forum hosting"

I strongly believe that Serverpoint.com is one of the best companies to host a forum website. I think that it will be better for you to start with shared hosting. The best thing about shared web hosting solution is that it offers the benefits of high performance web hosting services, while sharing a powerful web server with several others. It will definitely meet your specific requirements on reasonable rates.

Forum-friendly environments glowhost.com, lypha.com and ahosting.biz provide for their clients. Their plans have the necessary amount of space, bandwidth and scripts that the forum running needs to feel safe and sound.

Big forums tends to take a lot of resources, as they will have a lot of repeat visitors, browsing around for a longer time than most kind of sites. That means more page views than most other type of sites, which means more reource usage as well.

But forums in the initial stages attract very little traffic ain it takes a lot of time and effort to get it to ttract a lot of visitors. Instead of over estimating the traffic potential, be realistic and get a decent shared host. If you end up using a lot of resources in short time, obvioualy you will be making enough money to support a dedicated server as well.

For hosting forum, you'd be better to use not shared hosting but something like a VPS or dedi. Not shared! Have seen some nice offers from glowhost.com. Think they will be helpful for you in many forum ways.

Shared is the best for your start. And if your are looking to start with forum shared will be ideal to start with. As soon as your forum will be cramped on the shared account only then move to the VPS. It might takes ages to get your forum popular

Nice forum hosting opportunities are provided by Webhostgiant.com - really cheap, and include software and scripts for forums.

Also application hosting is offered by ServerPoint.com. I suppose there is no necessity of telling about this host...
