Hi guys,
I have started playing around with domains more seriously in the last few weeks. I have been listening to domain sherpa so got some inspiration from that, for better or worse. :)

Anyway, I am definitely treating this like a hobby for now and would like to develop this into pocket change/spending money ie; $10k per year or less.

I have been trolling the dropped, expired and auction lists from way too many sources and picked up the following (amongst other i own as well from last year).

bathroomfittings.org
boatcosts.com
boxg.net
businesstheories.com
careerslisting.com
carsrenting.com
drinkrecipes.org
eazycare.com
gluc.net
guttercompanies.com
hu6s.com
imputation.net
kathyy.com
keyd.net
lacross.org
modelstockphoto.com
onlinebrochuredesign.com
parachutists.info and .co.uk
polosticks.com
productlabel.net
properyportfolios.net
rachet.net
ralx.net
roofings.net
samys.net
savingsaccount.info
speculator.info
tradeshares.net
tradingprogramme.com
trendingtimes.com
tyrac.com
ughh.net
whosey.com
wordrobe.net
zurkon.com
cmzv.com
dailybeds.com

Can you guys offer any feedback on the strategy ? I picked up most for a few $ here and there and some of the better sounding ones around $20 to $25.
I listed gluc.net on afternic (they're all listed there) and it literally sold within about 15 secs..i don't know how that's possible but its in escrow..so it still may not go through.

over the last few days i could have registered some decent sounding LLLL.com's but what are your thoughts on that..there seems to be a few available which to me indicates that the market is pretty thin for these type of names ? I dont know!
Like last night, i found a LLLL.com and couldnt be bothered with it then this morning its up for auction for $2k on godaddy. Not that it means much but i am a bit lost with these LLLL.com's.

Any feedback good or bad would be much appreciated.

Thanks gang!

PS: Most of the newer domains are set to privacy off so feel free to contact me via email or whatever if interested in a chat or any of the names :)

Welcome to Name Pros. I am a fairly new to this myself but I have learned a lot from reading as much as possible on this forum and by listening to some of the great people on here. Take a good look around and you will pick up a lot of great information here. As for your domains, I will leave it up to the others around here since they know a lot more than me. I do see a few I think are good domains though. I am more of the type that likes to get a domain and do some development of some sort before selling though. I am sure some of the vets will ring in and let you know what they think. Anyway, welcome again to Name Pros and I hope to see you around here.

Thanks Ulterios, appreciate the feedback.
There's just something about registering a good name and selling it for a nice profit that gets my blood pumping. We have developed a number of names that i have not included in the list, this list is what i have picked up in the last 2-3 weeks and wanted to check in to see what the vets thought of the strategy/my line of thinking.
I'll def be around as this looks like an awesome community, from the brief bit of posts that i have read.
take care.

You are most welcome. I wish I could give more feedback but I am still learning myself. I see several that have a lot of development potential so if you get the right buyer you could get some good $ for them.

Domaining can be very addicting. A month ago I had about 25 that I had bought about just over 6 months ago and now I have over 50 and the number grows just about daily. I get caught up on some good ideas and then I go do some research and find out whats out there. I actually need to spend more time developing the ones I am in the process of developing and get away from registering for a bit but I just can't stop buying more. LOL

Anyway, read as much as you can here and you will learn a lot. I have checked out some other websites but this one is the best for good information and honest input. Some of the other sites have a lot of people who just tell you what you want to hear and not the facts. I would rather have the painful truth and learn then to hear fantasies and waste more money doing something that isn't wise. Take care and Happy Domaining.

Hi,

i am not a vet but I can certainly tell you something about LLLLs. The one you have wouldn't go for more than 20-35$ to a reseller so if you want to make money out of it you will have to wait for an end user.

If you tell me what the other LLLL is I can definitely tell you if it's a crazy seller or a very good domain :)

Thanks P,
Wouldn't have a clue which one it was because i literally had a list of about 10 that were available for rego in the last 2-3 days. Anyway, good luck to him i say.
as for the one i own, yeah i assumed that it wouldn't be worth much but not that little. I am certain that i picked up this one in the available list (not auctions) so probably paid $3-$4 for it. Lets see how it goes.
Any thoughts on some of the others ?

I stand corrected - $25.94 via expired auctions.

Developing is so time consuming..well for me/us. Right now my business partner and I developed gamerclipsTV which is chewing up so much time, its like a 2nd job..its crazy. we both work full time so we're pulling in 19 hours per day between the work and all this stuff!

hhhhhhhhmmmmmm.....LLLLs . com don't drop so you won't find any in the available lists...

I think no one has seen one of them available in at leas 4-5 years!

I can't tell you much about the others especially the .net and .org as I don't work with them. Personally i don't find much value in what you have up here but don't take what i say as liquid gold.

I don't see god brandables and the EMDs are not so valuable; plus many are typos or misspelling.

Maybe CarsRenting...but it's incorrect English wise. You could sell it to someone who wants to put up an affiliate website but I think it's about it.

Awesome thank you. I am not sure which ones are misspelled or typos (some are i know but not most). or i may have entered the text is wrong. majority should be spelled correctly.
the buy it now for gluc.net was $500 so it will be interesting to see if the escrow goes through. he has another few business days to complete the transaction. that sales alone would have paid for all of the above so hoping for an end user for some of the others.
thanks again.

You just need to be patient. Besides that you need to learn to " let some of your names go "....
AAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL of us must drop names sooner or later

So have no attachment for any name whatsoever. Learned that lesson from trading shares/stocks.

Welcome to NamePros!

Expecting to generate a yearly profit of 10K sounds pretty optimistic considering your portfolio and that you are only doing this on a hobby basis. You have some decent names in between but as you probably already know by now there can be months between good sales.

Good luck with everything!

Thanks FanCube.
Setting the goal that high and probably out of reach is so that I have something meaningful to chase. Whether that or even half that occurs is another case. I will post back if anything sells.
As of now, and as I thought all along, the buyer of gluc.net did not come through.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

seems lot of newbies have initially been 'listening' to the same source

therefore, they tend to search for the same things, in the same places.

almost like pre-programming

cuz...... if domainers were .horses, for sure we could make them drink it.

imo.....

We were all new once.
So tell me, without knowing a thing about domaining, where should have I started? Where should have I looked first?
What should have I purchased first?
You response serves one thing and and definitely doesnt help me in any way.
If you hate the names so much how about you tell me why? Some constructive criticism?

well, I really hope I wasn't too rude :/ ... has it improved?

.. in my case - I did drop around 30 domains after watching domainsherpa interviews.

what is your current plan what to buy and what not to?

Kind regards,
Helmuts

Hi

first, if you re-read my post, i never said anything about your domains.

I only commented about the source of your knowledge or basic instruction, which led to a source for you to query available domains, which led to a source to register them.

in that respect, there is a pattern...not only of behavior, but also with quality.

you need to compare a variety of opinions, perspectives and whole lot more "what if's", before adding more names to the shopping cart.

also, learn to read, not only the lines as written, but what's "in between" them as well.

Good Luck!
