I enjoyed it even though I have no interest in wine. You repeated yourself a bit, but it held my attention til the end. GL

WineGuy,

Its been over a year since I first started reading your posts on NP......

Putting a face to the name was really nice to see.

Your comedic timing is impeccable, I was transfixed, and wine is not my thing either...but when you have good material - i.e dont pick your nose on camera, give the white wine away as a gift, and start your own brand called ACME......and a straight faced ugly mug....you have comedy!!

By far the best intro I have seen to date....

Wineguy,

Great concept and great intro video.

Like James said, its great to see a name with the face. I enjoyed the video. You have a knack for this because you are passionate about wine through and through.

I LOVE everything about the ACME Winery brand. Very cool.

I hope you are open to a few tips/suggestions. Please do not let these take away from your effort or my evaluation of your content:

1) Check out this blog I wrote to help you produce better videos (http://www.allthings.tv/web/index.php/article/how_to_produce_video_for_your_website/). I think repositioning the camera and paying attention to the lighting would make the video even better. I felt as though I was looking up at you and you seemed to be looking down at me. That felt a bit strange.

2) If you have the time, script out what you will discuss before powering up the video camera. Clearly, identify what wines you will talk about and in what order. Film those wines up close individually so you can control the lighting and make sure we can see the label. As a consumer, I want to see the label since that is just about the only thing that will allow me to distinguish between two different bottles (other than the size/shape of the bottle).

I was able to see the Acme Winery bottle better than I was the bottle sent by your friend. Soon it will be companies sending you their wines to taste on camera rather than your friends and presentation would help sell their wine. Unless they have a truly unique looking bottle, the label will be the only thing that will distinguish them from the next guy's bottle when you present them in front of the camera (other than your personal review of course). By filming the bottles/labels before, you get a tight, up close and professional shot that you can splice into your regular feed when appropriate.

3) I fully realize this is just the beginning, but my intent in sharing information this is to boost you as far forward on the learning curve as far as possible. I hope all of us succeed with our .tv sites and I certainly enjoy helping. Of course, as you go forward, you will likely want to incorporate images, titles, and URLs to make your videos more powerful and empower viewers to learn more about the wineries and the specific bottles of wine you mention. By conveying that information in as many ways as possible in the future, you will keep both viewers and your wineries very happy. I can easily identify the wine you discuss without rewinding the video and wineries will sell more bottles.

4) I recommend uploading your video to Brightcove, YouTube and other video sites so those searching for anything related to wine will find your introduction video and your site.

5) If someone finds your video on a site other than your own, have you made it easy for them to find your website? Do you specifically mention it in the video, make it appear on screen in the video, or even have a watermark? Interestingly, some viewers might think it were humorous if you held up the site's URL, decorated on a poster board. One site I know about made this into something that really drew a lot of attention by having different posters decoratedly differently for every episode.

I know you did not specifically ask for such an in depth analysis, but these things are probably already on your mind.

oh, last point, maybe its because I have a headache from working so many hours today, but I noticed the camera wobble, which made me dizzy. It obviously was not a big deal because I don't think I noticed anybody else mention it in this thread. ;)

The only reason why I notice these things is because its my job to learn how to make better videos for my sites and I learned from making mistakes mostly.

I look forward to seeing your future episodes and trying some of your recommended wines!

The intro was just done using the built in 1.3 megapixel webcam on a newer Toshiba laptop and I didn't do any editing. I should have compressed the file before uploading but it but in the end I think the ME.TV/VideoEgg publisher compressed it anyway..

Thanks.

Hotnames,

Really good tutorial! I hope we can continue to add more video tips to it.

The whole idea behind getting the intro up was to :

First, have some fun with my new laptop. The camera is built in and the laptop was sitting on the kitchen table. Everytime I put my elbow down the whole thing bounced around. We have a Sony 8.0 megapixel that I can plug in and tripod that I will probably be using in the future but for now the web cam will do. I kinda hope this shows that you don't neccesarily need a lot of equipment to get started.

I needed to get some fast feedback, and you folks have certainely given me that, very encouraging. I promise to not quit my day job just yet though, or I forgot this is my day job.

I wanted to see what tools I have at my disposal and see experiment with what can be created with it. Plenty of wine props in this house thats for certain.

Finally, I just needed to poke a little fun at Carson's intros and posts and see if we can get a fun little banter going back and forth. Just some one liners or zingers back and forth as if we know each other and really don't like one another. He will have to see the vid though in order for that to get started. It is the perfect platform for those kind of fun viral effects to be created. We will see.

Anywho, thanks for the tips, I really do appreciate it.

Cheers!
