So I've been thinking (which is definitely scary for my bank account) Anyway, so here's the thing, Once you add “channel” to any .TV it squarely puts the ball back in the .com court to some extent. What I mean is, some on this board are banking on the fact that people will search for xxxxchannel keywords. I happen to agree, but you are no longer utilizing the true value of .TV over .com as far as the keyword.tv is concerned.

I see another opportunity to cash in on this as far as .com is concerned. First off, if people do get accustomed to the “channel”mentality, this will spread across multiple TLD's IMO with the strongest value in com, followed by .tv, which will be a very strong second (once again I'm not talking about keyword.tv's just the ones that use “channel” as a prefix or suffix). Now as far as I can tell when people put “racing channel”into google, they will come back with both racingchannel and channelracing hits. You will see fully developed xxxchannel.com channelxxxx.com names (the same for .TV) Most of the good xxxchannel.tv keywords are gone (but still many gems left) but virtually all the good xxxchannel.com are taken (I think a few remain, but very few)

Now what got me thinking was there are a ton of good channelxxx.tv keyword names left. One example is channelmobile.tv (if you take please send me NP), but there are even some good channelxxxx.com keywords left. While I don't think its worth it to invest too much in channelxxx.tv at this point unless you are hedging to protect your xxxxchannel.tv (which you should do IMO) I'm not sure why Demand Media didn't register mechannel.tv (which I got 2 days ago) but anyway, back to my point.

In the case of channelxxx.com I do think its worth it to pick up some of these names as I think they have great potential for development and branding and may even get decent traffic down the line. Once the Demand Media campaign kicks into gear there will be a huge serge in these type of registrations IMO and people will be on the hunt for both channel .com's and .tv's. I only searched for 1 hour and came up with the list below. Once again they are clearly not all winners, but if one of two are developed or attract interest I think it will be well worth it.

Yes, I know I think outside the box, sometimes I'm hanging on the outside of the box for dear life. And yes I make mistakes and will learn some lessons the hard way, but I'm in this for the long haul and I trust my instincts and truly believe we live in an amazing time in history and our at the beginnings of a massive technological revolution.

Here are the .com channel names I have registered (a few xxxchannel.com's too). I appreciate any feedback and comments on this idea? Some were taken with development in mind.

channelracing.com
channelcooking.com
channelgolfing.com
channelcollge.com
channelviral.com
channelmobi.com
channelreality.com
channelcollege.com
channelbaskeball.com
channelbaseball.com

hechannel.com
shechannel.com
highlightchannel.com

I you find your own channelxxx.com or xxxxchannel.com post them here.

Now my next post is an idea that I'm working on that will be way more of a reach but I think could be branded really well. Stay Tuned....

Don't quit your day job. But no really, why not use the money you are putting into these risky strategies and develop a name?

Nuf said! I cant imagine what your renewals are going to be! This is my second year of domianing. I have officially gone through my first year of renewals. It was very traumatic to my bank account. It really made me choose 10 times more carefully. In my first year I registered near 450 .coms , 100 .nets and a few others. I sold about 40 .coms last year and let about 100 drop. I still had faith in lots of names, but with depleted funding and so little time left I was forced to let 50 names drop that I did not want to. Even traffic TM names that made money were dropped. I had dealings with Amazon, Microfsoft and several names were blacklisted. Lesson number one learned. Lesson number two, Many of th enames I parted with were obviously worth something to some folks, but when you register so many its just not possible to sell them all. I had to start selling names at $1 to 7 dollars to see any action before their expiration date. I also had to let severl go that will eventually be worth money in favor of other names I had that were more valuable. Poodleman you register so many names I don't think you can sell them fast enough. You buy them so furiously that selling them has taken a back seat it would seem. My lesson # 2 was learned the hard way. When I search for names that I have dropped, 85% have been bought at TDNAM and picked up after they dropped. This could easily happen to you. You have many bright I deas, but it may not always be in your best interest to buy them all. I believe in you, but you have to set a line and never cross it. You come up with so many concepts that it will be impossible to bring every idea to fruition. I have about 215 .coms left. I am trying to sell the entire portfolio for $5500 with no luck so far. All of the names were registered last year and there are no new registrations. If you do the math thats only about $25 a name. Not alot of profit, if you check out some of the names they are damn good. Finding a buyer is an entire different ordeal. Im not saying you don't make sales, Im just saying you dont need register so many to be successful. I think you could have spent the amount you spent on soso registrations for 2 really great names you could resell in the next 6 months for $XX,XXX. At least thats the way I would have done it if I were you. Poodleman, we are all pulling for you, just don't get caught up. Start to post your domains for sale. I also learned theres no shame in trying to get top dollar for names you just registered, so start posting your names and selling like mad, the countdown has begun!

Best of luck my friend, this was just my experiences and a little friedly advice!

I agree with SF. Poodle, taking derivatives of the core principle is fine and dandy but your main focus should be on the root. Search and seek keyword.tv if you believe .TV will prevail. If there are pearls in the ocean still then why search for pearls in nearby waterways? Out of the norm sequencing of words will prevail in the fewest of cases.

This is just constructive criticism. Please take it that way. Aside from that your keywordchannel.com can work but many are gone that apply to TV. Do you know any that have sold? That is how far away it is.

Speculating is fine but don't make the mistake of speculation to be the bulk of your portfolio.

Exactly College Channel makes sense ChannelCollege does not IMO the only place where channel first makes sense is followed by a number Channel1 ChannelThree Channel10, because Google will return results means very little IMO If you are into search engine marketing you can make any domain be successful. DisneyChannel, HistoryChannel, Travel Channel, DiscoveryChannel,StyleChannel these are all major cable stations not one is Channel*********

And at the end of the day when all people do is reg domains nothing ever gets done because these domains you have regged certainly don't get traffic.

Lastly, I always ask people why would you want to spend time and money on your 21st best IDEA? Prioritize This is what happens people are posting their 10th newest concept and not even following through on the first concept they posted, and it keeps going without development

Despite the outcry (which I appreciate and understand)

I just added:

channeldallas.com
channelhouston.com
channelphoenix.com

Also:

detTV.com for detriot tv
bufTV.com for Buffalo tv
TVbos.com for Boston TV
TVlos.com For Los Angeles TV

Also took tubsters.com

Trust me there was more of these avial and I justs limited myself to a few so I feel I am making progress. Like I said in 6 months these would be gone for sure. (I know you may not agree but I think DETtv.COM is a great name to market in Detriot, short and sweet. The other have lots of potential too.

To me its worth seeing how the how channel thing plays out and if need be I feel I can dump these for a small profit

poodleman, you have regged some great names. (e.g. DV.tv)

I hate to repeat what others have said, but the names in this thread are not very good.

I mean, "TVBos.com" is just silly. why don't you spend your money instead on buying fewer, better names in the secondary market?

I think instead of getting so many name you should try for less higher quality domain names. years ago golfchannel.com would have been good! you could have sold that to the golf channel! it's seem you marketing to media companys! foodchannel.com I think channel first is better than last. and that channel last won't sell or is not in high demand!
