We're all know that good "brandable" domain cost a lot of money, but at the same time it is really difficult to sell such domains.
Why?
Because none of the current DN marketplaces specialize on "brandable" domains, which could be used as a company/product/technology name.
Over the past 5-6 years I've been helping my customers to come up with good name for their projects, design corporate identity materials etc. The workflow is pretty much the same every time:
1. We come up with a name
2. making sure it is available
3. I created sketches for their logo
4. the whole package leaves for approval, if it is approved, we register the domain name and work on second draft of visual identity.
Idea:
To create a place, where business owners will be able to choose & purchase complete (or "almost" complete) "branding" package:
- Name
- domain name
- slogan
- logo sketches
- business card/letterhead/envelop
- website template.
Why i think it will work:
When people make choices they often rely on senses. Being able to choose visually is the best environment to make a decision. Since time is money and the name/domain supposed to be chosen/purchased "yesterday", this place will be just perfect providing the minimum needed to jump start the biz.
The project will generate revenues as % from each sale (like 10-15%) through offering escrow services. We will accept money from the buyers until the full package gets transfered to the new owner, and then the seller gets paid.
There will be no parking services, no monetization - everything will be kept as simple as possible.
I already have the name/domain for this project, and i already started playing with the software that will be powering this project.
The investment needed to jump-start this project is $3-$4K.
Part of this sum will be spent on registration of LLC, the rest - on development.
I estimate that 'average' brands will be sold from $2K-$5K. Dozen of brands sold through this site will cover all expenses.
I am in San Francisco, CA and if you're from SF Bay Area, it would be just perfect.
The part i did not explain is the marketing strategy, which i will share as soon as i see that someone is interested and capable. It's a simple , yet clever approach that is not currently used by any competing services.
Ciao!
