I saw a plugin for E107 and php nuke..and thought..wow..what a great idea...

it's a plugin that is normally hidden unless their is a current amber alert going out..i was thinking..maybe you could make something like that for here?

could make it so it only show up for the people in the region of where the amber alert is given (based off of peoples signup info?).. I mean..every little bit would help right?

oh wow that is a lot more serious than I thought, but a good idea

I thought you meant when a well known member disappears we put out an alert to find them, so basically like anthony, or robertjr for that long time period

However I like your idea alot better

Could you post a link to where to find more info? Either a sample script, or info on where to pull the amber alert feeds?

ok, for some reason (being tired most likely) i cant find a plugin to give you to tear apart.. but i did find the coding for the java:

Code:
<div class='indent'>
<!-- Begin Code amber Ticker code. -->
<P ALIGN=CENTER>
<script LANGUAGE="Javascript1.2" src="http://www.codeamber.org/js/codea.js">
</script>
</P>
<!-- end of Code amber Ticker code (c)Copyright codeamber.org 2002, 2003, 2004-->
</div>

note: www.codeamber.org as the feed source.

hope this helps? I'll keep looking regardless..i just saw it within the past 24 hours

Nice idea Lee. :tu: I've saw several sites in the past that have the CodeAmber running on their site. It's a nice feature and could possibly help recover a lost child, as there are children who go missing everyday. The help of everyone is crucial when a child goes missing and the CodeAmber is just another resource to get their name and photo out there.

Yeah I see on the news all the time these kids going missing in California. I don't know why it is always Cali, but for some odd reason it is. It would be really nice to inform everyone and then have a link to click if they desired to view the picture and information. It is like when the television does the weekly test for a wheather alert and it has a red scroll bar and makes an annoying noise. This of course would definately not need the annoying noise, for it would drive people away. This is a very good idea and I completely support it.

I think a good integration for this might be like .. how phpnuke has that "send message to all users" thing that puts a temporary banner up, in bright rad.. accross the top of the site (under the main site banner)that shows up only once with the text information.

maybe rj can use something like this..with say a clickable link in it to read the information, see pics..etc?

just seems pretty intuitive that way?

Yeah like how www.weather.com has it. It scrolls and if you go over it the text stops and you can click for a link. Then it will go away after awhile. That idea is even better. I don't think people would enjoy it much if it was spammed like crazy with alerts. Maybe 2 or 3 scrolls at most.

-RJ-, if you install this, then please make sure we can disable it in our profile (or something) if we want.

Thanks!
