Am I overpaying?

Have been with my host for more than a year now. I am paying $7 a month and this is what I get:
50mb, 2Gig transfer and all these:
http://www.skydio.com/sg/products/skyhost_specs.html

Having look through this forum and others as well, I am seeing $2 - $10 per month offering almost the same technical specs.. Can anyone tell me if I am over-paying?
Anybody got a better deal?

Webmail is important to me. It must have a nice interface. Not the standard Horde, Neo and Squrrel type..

Many thanks:)

I think it comes down to what your happy with. If you are happy with what you are getting for 7$ a month, thats not much to pay. There will always be cheaper prices, better specs etc, but if your current needs are accomodated, i would say you're doing fine as far as price goes.

Just my two cents.

Roughly same account specs for $1 a month - have a look at exize.com, webmail included, along with unlimited bits and pieces - well, I'll let you take a look for yourself.

As rsbombard said, if you're happy with your service then possibly not, but I think you'd get the same service much cheaper with many other hosts so, all depends on if you want to save a few dollars and take a risk or not :)

Right, the service/support you get should play a role in deciding if your paying too much or not.

I have 2 Reseller accounts, I pay $10 for one and $16 for the other, both offer the same type of support, the lesser also has Fantastico which is a plus, thus to me I am paying too much for the higher priced account.

A reseller account is ideal if you have or plan to own many names in the near futur otherwise not needed, but figure for an extra $3/mth its worth while, to me anyways...

Many thanks guys. I actually asked my host and this was their response:

"This Richard.
I believe that you are refering to US Hosting Services.

I would say that we are not really in a very good position to comment that their services are reliable or stable as it is not professional to do so without knowing what are the package and services that they are providing.

But from the users point of view, you may like to consider the following factors,

- Is their Server Co-Located in a Datacentre or is it hosted in a office that are using a leased line?

- Should the Server is hosted in the US, should I required tech support, will I have diffculities in contacting them?

- Should my target audience are base in Asia Region and if the technicians required to perfom weekly server maintenance which is done during the night time.
(which might be a peak hour in Singapore, morning or afternoon.

In this case, will my target audience have diffculities in accessing my Web Contents? Will I and my company staff face problem in sending out and receiving Email?

- Do I have the option to make payment for their Hosting Services using other alternative such as cheque, cash, Internet banking rather than using credit card.

Hope the above information help.
Please do let me know if you need anything.

Regards,
Richard"

I would have to agree with your host, especially on the support side of things, the host i use charge $40 a year, with 5gb transfer/month hundreds of features everything u need, and the tech support guys are cool 24/7 support.. + they own their own datacenter

If your happy with your host it might be better you stick with them especially if they have good support..

Just my 2cents

Overpaying at $7/mo? If the service is reliable and you're happy with the support, isn't that worth more than whether you can save a couple dollars?

I've seen clients have to change hosts, lose data and have general downtime when a host disappears. They're more worried about saving a dollar to be at the lowest price host than thinking about their business.

A reliable host is worth its virtual weight in gold.

Don't nickle and dime something as important as hosting.

If your happy with your host there is absolutely no reason to leave. $7 is a steal if your happy.

Perhaps you could find a host that sells a plan you want for less. How many customers do they have to put on a server to turn a profit though? If they don't make money, how long are they going to be in business?

Think if $5/month is really worth moving to a cheaper host.

I wouldn't mind paying that much if the quality is good...

It all depends...

There are many other better hosts out there that have a rockbottom prices and high quality. Here this is the host I use:

http://www.exinant.com Look at the shared hosting for $8 a month you can get 30 gig bandwidth and 2 gig space beat that!

Sometimes you pay more for hosting because the host has very good support, and sometimes you pay less for hosting because the host has poor support. Doesn't always work that way, but that is the general feeling I got before I started my own hosting. I guess a little research before you buy can go a long way and be beneficial to you in the long run. Establish what you need and your budget, then go from there. HTH :)

Buy your hosting from a reputable webhost with a good reputation for excellent service and support. Finding other satisfied customers you trust is a good way to start this sometimes agonizing hunt.

$7 a month is certainly not too much to pay if you are getting the support and reliable uptime you need. If diskspace and bandwidth transfer are issues for you, there are many very good webhosts, however, who can give you much better deals.

Tokkong, if you are getting reliable service and you have no downtime issues you are certainly not over paying.

All of these so called "hosts" who say you are overpaying have no concept of the value of quality.
Most likely they are high school resellers who are just trying to make enough money for their next Xbox game. They are a dime a dozen in the hosting business.

When you find something that works, stick with it.

lol, what you need to find out is

1. how old is your host? are they even an adult?

2. what datacenter do they use?

3. what do they allow on their servers?

4. how long have they been in business?

5. where exactly are they physically located?

6. do a search at wht to see if they are on the ban list!

7. are they just a reseller or do they have their own servers

8. are their servers overcrowded

9. do they oversell?
