I backordered PlayGolf.com and UFO.net and then received emails that they were being withdrawn. Soon after I received emails saying the notice was false and that an error with Tucows integration caused the false alarms. Later, I received an email saying PlayGolf.com was being withdrawn from the auction. Then I got one saying UFO.net was gone. And tonight, Zira.com has been removed.

I understand the integration of 100,000 names might be a little tricky, but still, what gives?

I have noticed this as well, but it's likely that the owners just simply Renewed the domains and Tucows/Afternic can not auction the domains off then.

Why so many are getting renewed and removed from auction? I am looking into that right now. ;)

Usually Tucows keeps the best names and leaves the crumbs to auctions ;)

This is the reply from Bill Sweetman of Tucows to my post about this. http://www.dotweekly.com/2008/06/21/tucowsafternic-simply-dropped-the-ball/

"Hi Jamie,

I am sorry to hear that you’ve experienced some frustrations attempting to bid on some Tucows expired names on Afternic … especially after you blogged so enthusiastically about about our new collaboration with Afternic.

Here’s what happened: during the transition from the old Tucows Auction to the new Afternic relationship, over 100,000 expired domain names were loaded into the Afternic marketplace. Unfortunately, there was a technical error that led to some names (a small percentage of the original set) being listed in the Afternic marketplace that should not have been listed. These names were later removed from the marketplace, and the error that caused them to be listed in the first place has been corrected.

Normally, however, names would only be removed from the marketplace if the original registrant renewed them.

I do hope this experience will not stop you from participating in the auction in the future. And feel free to email me anytime with your feedback on the auction. (I will send you my contact info in a moment.)

Regards,

Bill Sweetman

Yah. I hate Tucow's system when it comes to expired domain names. I wish they would just do what Namejet or even TDNAM does.

However, I was supposed to be in all of those as well - received the same notices.
