AdSense Switching to CPM???

Hey!

I don't know if you have seen this or not, but according to the New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/25/t...artner=homepage , Google is testing a new program that allows Adwords customers to pay via CPM, instead of CPC, and also, it allows nontargetted ads. This looked very interesting to me, so I was wondering if Google Adsense switched to CPM, would your profits go up, or go down? In searching around a little bit, it seems that there will be a $2 minimum CPM.

Oh, ok. However, I still don't think it is definite that they are switching. They said they are just testing it, but yes, I am 99% sure that they will switch. Also, I think the purpose of the poll was to see if people were for or against it, not whether or not they thought it would happen. Sorry for all the confusion.

From the way I see it when its fully active for everyone it will run along with the CPC ads. They will show depending how well each type does on that page.

Yes, in the future I think they are going to do that, but right now they said they are testing it with a limited number of advertisers.

There is a catch though. If you read the press release they sent out carefully, it says that CPM will be for site-targetted advertising. In other words, your site would have to be chosen by an advertiser to get the CPM revenue. I think the downside of that would be that advertisers may abandon the PPC style which would put a hurting on the non-chosen sites. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that's what I get out of it. It's a fantastic thing if you are a very popular site that advertisers are aware of.

I think this new CPM thing is already functioning. A few days ago I had reported in another forum that my domain blog was generating revenue even though there were no clicks. Most everyone came to the same conclusion: that the AS reporting system still had some bugs from the recent switch to real time channel reporting. But now I think it's no glitch but in fact this new CPM thing.
