About domain age..

it is known that the value of domain commonly increases with it's age. So, the question appeared.
What if domain was dropped and after I've picked it it has no history. Only Archive.org can tell us about it. So the question is do Archive.org results influence domain name value?
Any thoughts? :?

Well if the domain has been down for a remarkable while before you picked it up then it should have lost all the traffic, PR and indexed pages and so age will be useless in this case.

I wouldn't say that age really increases the domains value. The only people it really makes a difference with is sentimental domainers and SEO people. The main reason SEO people like a bit of age is because it will be easier to get the site on the domain ranked. But once you reach a certain age it doesn't matter if it is any older or not.

Some people take notice of the wayback machine to see what it has been used for in the past but in my opinion more to check think like back links, it helps ascertain why these back links exist. Also it could show potential problems (for example if the domain has been used for porn or anything else that may have caused it to get black listed from search engines in the past.

I dont really look at age to much. Perhaps in special circumstances but for the most part it means nothing to me. Definatley doesnt increase its value to me atleast.

Websites that I have built on older domains seem to get better results from search engines. There is a phenomenom called the "Google Sand Box" that, according to those who believe in it, says that for a period of time Google downplays the value of a new website in competitive subjects. Estimates start at 6 months, and go up. Google denys there is such a thing, most SEO people say there is.

An aged domain may avoid the sandbox. Google has access to whois records and supposedly checks the age of domains, counting from the last new reg. So if you bought a drop then you have a new domain.

I sold 50+ aged name in last 6 months. Most of them are 5+ years old and some are even 9 years old. They were sold quickly in the price range of $50 - $300. So personally I believe aged domains are value added.
