So, some idiot paid $800 for this domain name, made a custom banner to advertise it in specific association with the movie franchise, and thinks someone is going to pay $100k for it?

If this is something that strikes you as a good idea then, please, get out of domaining immediately.

I just don't get it. Who does this person think is going to pay $100k for that name?

    Because James Bond is famous.

Big problem with newbies: trying to get TM names so they can get rich quick.

Common question in the newbie section:
There is a company call Dick (may be Dick Sporing Goods)
Can I register BiggerDick and sell to them?

People needs to learn from the expert like Adam Dicker. Only buy and sell names that you have expertise.
    He bought and sold AssHoles.com
This is how you should do it. Dicker is an expert in AssHoles

Even MyWordIsMy.Bond can't be worth $800 bucks a year!

Could that idiot be the .bond registry? They don't strike me as the smartest lot... You know... Launching a .bond TLD.

James.Bond is a great name for only $800. By far the best in that extension, imo.

We have really lost our creativity and adventure when industry respected representatives call out domain purchases as "abject stupidity" and "idiot"....The industry reps are turning this place into a cesspool of negativity.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thought the same thing when I saw it. 007 is a trademark and clearly James Bond is.

What on earth makes you believe that spending $800 on an immediately-recognizable well-known trademark is a good idea? It's just plain stupid. A cesspool of cyberquatting is more like it.

How do you assume its used for the Trademarks.
Are you suggesting that a person named "James" can't use that domain in good faith?..Lets see the intent, before we prosecute.

The ad banner clearly shows James Bond's preferred tuxedo attire. I don't see a photo of e.g. James Booth there. Double oh seven, baby!

If "relatively unknown" Mr.Green lost the case, so would this one.

Not the same. Respondent was using the domain for an affiliate program offered by complainant.

Is the domain registrant the same as the registry? I agree the banner is an issue, but that is the registry, not the registrant. Correct me if I am wrong.

I naively assumed it had something to do with the Bond franchise because it was so blatant even down to the graphics.

I suggested on another thread that they use a subdomain Bond.James.Bond

So the real question is, is ShortDot cybersquatting?

The domain has no reference to any TM. No. There is no cybersquatting in this case.
