You can make use of rss feeds from outside websites and publish them on your website with proper source attribution.

Also sprinkle your blog with some original content to make your blog unique.

If you utilize an rss feed the internal link structure points to the publisher and as Weblord stated that was the intended purpose of feeds. RSS feeds are a superior way to automate blogs and supplement your own content.

RSS feeds are a convenience for the use of individual people but use on a blog is taking readers away. This, of course, isn't an issue if you use only shortened feeds that give only the first paragraph with a link.

As a writer, I wouldn't be happy to see all of my articles reposted in full on another blog just because I offer an RSS feed.

yes I do as well offer and rss feed from my blog too. I've seen blogs just with rss stuff on it. I would do orginial content preferably

You can do that but place their link as a reference after the post. But I highly suggest to put some content you have originally created like a little description to make your post unique. Unique content is important especially to google. Google bots love unique and fresh contents.

rss feeds also ensure some randomization and updated content on your pages, so they are useful. news feeds especially are well-suited for rss, as well as deep sites with many unique pages. duplicate content is a problem, as others mentioned, so make sure to do more than just aggregate feeds.

One of the things I do with RSS feeds is make sure that the links have the target="_blank" attribute. That forces the RSS link to open in a new window, leaving your site on the original window.

Some RSS feeds are hard wired with links that include the target="_blank", and some do not. To get around this I run a cron job (periodic job run on the server) that downloads the RSS feed to my server. Then I take the RSS, reformat it the way I want, include the target="_blank" if needed, etc. In general most RSS publishers like this cron approach since it puts the load on my server, not their server. Also, I don't have to rely on remote RSS servers being down. To minize faults associated with the RSS server being down, I do it a few times (usually at night) and throughout the day. That way if the RSS server was down I can pick it up later. The code that downloads the RSS to my server checks for blank returns so a dead RSS server won't write a big null file to my stored RSS feeds.

A bit complex maybe, but it works.
