Tech and internet related domains tend to have a higher alexa ranking because the vistors of those sites are more likely to have the alexa toolbar than average web surfers.

I would guess godaddy will continue their specials until they feel they have an adequate grip on the industry and can start raising prices. Also, many consumers have no idea of the godaddy loopholes...
