86'd from PayPal AND Amazon just for owning a Domain Name

Hi,

I got 86'd from Paypal just for owning Earthliberationfront.com

Two days later, I got the same from Amazon. (Funny thing, they still sell their ELF book under Google Adwords when you search under Earth liberation front.)

I simply bought the domain for the traffic- it gets around 750 uniques a day.

I can live without both, but no Paypal is a hassle. I never even ran any transactions with Paypal from the site.

Andrew

Search earth liberation front at Google and click cache for the first result to see Andrew's site.

Archive.org has results from 2002 and 2003 for the domain to view the old ELF website.

Pointed at PPC, or at an affiliate like you have now, is probably the best option

That might create similar problems, with google and its adsense advertisers forcing the PPC provider to drop your account. Eventually, you might end up getting banned at so many places that doing business online gets extremely difficult.

Next will come the IRS audit, lol, and suits knocking on the door for a chat, jeeese, you'd have gotten into less trouble regging 'disneysucks.com' or some such, rofl...

Actually, that is no joke. Andrew, I would prepare for the worse.

I ordered scripts from another country because I could get them WAY cheaper. The package was intercepted by homeland security. They (Homeland Security) sent me a letter informing me that I will not receive my package and that I am basically on watch from this point on.

Oddly enough, I am getting audited by the IRS soon. Nothing ever changed with me as far as income and taxes go. I believe it has everything to do with that ne incident.

Andrew, if I were you (if you want no trouble) I would unregister that domain. Unless you are a glutton for punishment. You can bet your arse that Big Brother has put you on a list and is watching your every move.

Ahhhhh! Now, isn't it nice living in Nazi Amerika!! :|

I appreciate your comments Zquest, and respectfully have a couple of questions/clarifications-
*By "scripts" do you mean prescription drugs or software? If it were prescription drugs, why would Homeland Security and not US Customs contact you? What were the amounts? If they felt there was a law violation, why wouldn't they have a more direct legal action rather than involving a 3rd party agency like the IRS?
*As I said before, personally I have nothing to hide taxes-wise, or any other way, so I don't really "fear the man". On the other hand, I certainally understand the "punishment" behind the harassment of such things even if you have nothing to hide because of the time and emotion.

*Lastly, with 20K+ uniques a month, I'm sure someone would take the names off my hands- can you really even "un-register" a name?

very best regards,

Andrew

Andrew,
How did you get this name to begin with?
And you are right, there really isn't a way to "unregister" the domain name as the whois will always have ya ;)
I've greatly enjoyed this thread, thanks for keeping us apprised!

Thanks, Allan- I think it's quite compelling too; it's just a little more dramatic on my end!

* I picked this domain because I was trolling around on the soon-to-expire lists on DomainsBot & noticed it had a huge numbers. I secured it with a drop service. As soon as I secured it, I hand reg'd the .org (about 75-100/day) and the .info and .us as well. I was surprised that at least the .org wasn't taken, as this is more of an ORG anyway. The .net is parked by someone else.

* Yes, I'll keep you apprised of any (hopefully few) developments.

I would've made it a "mock" site. Turn it into a big joke, make it into a total and utter absurd.
Something like:

"I confess - I have killed all hippos in Hudson River in 2003. Only two have gotten away and they're heading towards Canadian border. Arrest me."

And trust me - this way you will get even more traffic (on top of type-in and SE), 'cause people will email the link to each other as "haha, look at this."

I have successfully used this trick to get rid of some nonsense allegations once.

Will this action taken by paypal blacklist you from ever using their service again?

I love it! :tu:
I bet you never thought that you'd have an occasion in life to undertake that action, now did you? :alien:

Still, thanks for the update, and congrats on being "whitelisted" so to speak.

Shew, glad to hear you won't be spending the next coupla years at Guantanimo Bay, lol. The  's just no good there, doncha know.

To be honest, this really does have the makings of an interesting article, although I am sure you just want to put it to rest. But it would serve as a good reminder to reggers that there are considerations other than traffic that sometimes need to be looked at.....

Congrats! Glad you got the Men in Black to take you off their list of most wanted. :) I agree with Rogue. It would make a good article and reminder of how to avoid such situations.

Thanks guys-
It was all a bit unerving. I will post more details when I have more time- it is quite interesting.
Funny thing, he told me in no way would they contact Amazon or Paypal if they thought I was a bad guy: he said they would wait and watch the activity for a period of months or even years before making contact to see if indeed I was a bad guy or funding bad guys.
BTW: do they have wireless internet available in Guantanimo Bay? :)
