Watching the crazy spiralling prices of numeric dot coms, specially the love of chinese for the number "8", it would be interesting to note what 8.com goes for, if it sells one fine day:

https://sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=8.com

Note: Listed at Sedo only 2 days back (01/19/15) with minimum price set at only $799, I wonder how it came to be listed on Sedo in first place instead of going through top brokers (being an ULTRA ULTRA premium numeric)

88888.com went for $245,000 in 2013 and it's only an NNNNN

Surprised it's listed at Sedo.

From whois it looks like 8.com is reserved.

Yes, it does show that, maybe they are trying to put it on the market.
Sedo must have validated ownership before allowing the listing to go live.

It might be an IDN that somehow got listed as 8.com.

Surprised that Sedo listed it, since they claim to check ownership first.

I doubt IANA is a member at Sedo.

I mean, if they were going to release 8.com, they could attract the right attention that this domain deserves, very easily, and all on their own.

Some info about the "seller":

"Sedo community member since: 2011-03"

Sedo highlights the IDN domains in their search by an IDN icon, search Sedo for "8.com" it shows the same domain but doesn't list any IDN icon.

Probably it's the real deal, there are already 6 bids on the name.

Well this surely can't be right because a domain like that wouldn't be listed for $799 or best offer.. I doubt that you can even buy it.

It's def an IDN that was once again posted as a misleading sale by sedo.

It's happened before with some controversy after effects.

Its not an idn its definitely 8.com that is listed, however the owner probably doesn't own that domain, as it is a reserved domain so is owned by the registry, as to how the seller go it on sedo, its quite easy, sedo still use their primitive manual owner verification, where you have to send an image of the domain in your account, for which you don't even need photoshop, firebug is more than enough, however they really wan't to make it 10x difficult for genuine portfolio owners to list, when they could have used an email based verification system like all the other marketplaces...... (Annoyed that I have to verify my domains every time i list them on sedo, manually! which could be faked so easily).

Yup, like I said earlier, the domain in question seems to be purely 8.com, not an IDN.

How and Why it got listed on Sedo is what's going to be interesting!!
If anyone knows someone at Sedo, maybe they can verify and let us know.

I don't remember SEDO validating ownership of any of my domains? They're all listed for sale, but I can't see how they'd have verified ownership as my account email was different to whois.

It's definitely not the real deal.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but like I said earlier:

The seller in this case does not own 8.com, he probably owns an IDN, and somehow it got listed as 8.com.

Like @.NJ said, it did cause a lot of controversy in the past because they never had that IDN icon.

Now it seems like they didn't add that icon. The seller is maybe using privacy, and they messed up with the manual verification.

Yup, like I said earlier, the domain in question seems to be purely 8.com, not an IDN.

It does seem like it's 8.com, but rest assured-that seller does not own it. It's reserved, much o.com, a.com, etc. It should have been listed as an IDN.

It's obviously an error on Sedo's part.

It might be 8.com but most chances that this is an IDN.
The reserved domain name cm.com was sold to someone less than a week ago(apparently) and then was registered :D
Creation Date: 16-jan-2015
Maybe ICANN and the registry have started their 2015 sales of reserved domains.

If it's for 799 I can buy it!!!
I'd go with others said; it must be and IDN or some sort of special character.

Are you going to pay when the seller accepts? We already know it's an IDN or error so why bother with offers?

Even though the minimum offer is $799, he will most likely receive high $x,xxx and low-mid $xx,xxx+ offers so it may be a lost cause from the start.

What a cluster****.

Remember, if it seems too good to be true, then it IS.
