I held a logo design competition here last year and was really impressed by the quality of entries. Taking that into consideration I'm offering $50 for the best design of a logo for the website: http://d2320653.u83.hosting365.ie/

The site has a name CollegeGuide.ie (domain isn't up and running just yet) and I'd like that name to be the basis for the logo. Please try to stick to the colour scheme of the site. I don't want to include the slogan in the logo. The site aims to provide students' views of college courses in Ireland. Note: no "Irish" shamrocks or green or anything like that.

Otherwise go wild with your first attempts and I'll provide regular and detailed feedback.

I envisage closing the contest and announcing a winner on April 16th.

Will, thanks for your entry. Given the political significance of the colour orange in Ireland I think it's best to leave out the map of Ireland altogether and try something else.

The mortarboard is a decent idea, another one would be a degree scroll.

Patrick, thanks for taking the time to participate. As for your entry I feel that the people in the logo are a bit too "cut and paste" generic, if you know what I mean. I'd be inclined to leave out such images which aren't part of the logo proper. Nice work with the font/text but remember that the background will be white.

umxca: nice idea with the 'g' and the mortarboard but I don't like the surrounding font at all.

Don't forget:
I don't want to include the slogan in the logo.

patrick: I see what you're trying to do, it's a great idea and it's much improved from your first effort. It needs to be implemented better though. The height/width ratio is off as far as I'm concerned. 130px in height is too much. The "potato man" just doesn't do it for me. Try leaving the man out altogether and continue working with the "path to college" or "route to college" idea.

Feedback appreciated. :)

patrick: don't make the text "CollegeGuide.ie" so small, it's the core of the logo. make it bigger and whatever "extra" you settle on smaller.

swefx: I'm not looking to add any words to the logo so the words "experience" and "knowledge" shouldn't be on the signpost. The font reminds me of dracula! Get rid of it and perhaps drop the pole part of the signpost in between college and guide as this logo is too high. Otherwise good attempt.

odea: certainly unique I appreciate that but the logo to the left reminds me of lightning or an evergreen tree. Doesn't "do it" for me.

AdrianM: this may sound harsh but here goes. Your logos look like those from on SAT/college guides from 1970s America. Leave out the medals, they're not widespread in Ireland. Ditto with the school outline - it's a common feature in construction companies' logos. Try something new with tick and tick box (don't bother with the book!) Thanks for participating.

Patrick: ditch the building altogether (the road can just lead into the horizon).

Here's my update:

swefx: Your latest revision isn't "professional" enough. It looks like two pieces of MS Word Clip Art either side of the text. Try to work the signpost in to the logo on its own. Forget having three "things" in the logo (mortarboard, student, signpost). One should be enough to suggest college/student/university.
