A company called Globat.com/DomainsAreFree.com is doing a big press release for their launch of $3.99 domain registrations.

They are going to do .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us at $3.99

I am sure its only a promo price to get them off the ground and will eventually increase by a few dollars but for some of us this can be a good savings even in the short term. Just watch out for transfer-away fees (or lockouts) which has happened with other promos of this nature in the industry.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

hmm... doesn't that sound a little fishy?
I'll check it out

Plan .com/.net/.org/.us/.info/.biz
1 year $3.99
2 years $12.98
3 years $21.97

That's what their prices look like. And I bet renewing costs a bunch too

Ah nice discovery there.
I bet the 2 and three year plans reflect what their regular prices are going to be. But that would still be a good deal at $6.50 per year.

I guess this drastic price is what a company has to do to try to compete with enom/godaddy but they still ain't no enom/godaddy.

It's definitely going to temp a few folks just like the EV1 specials did half a year ago. I wonder how happy those people are now?

Well, I can tell you. Not quite happy.

Many of these hosting companies are doing this to attract new customers. oneandone(5.99), ipowerweb(5.50), myvaluehost(4.00) . Not worth the headache in my own opinion

I'd rather pay a fair 7$ at name.com, which is ICANN accredited rather than 'save' a couple of bucks now and lose in the long run.

but anyone who wants to i can give them to you at 5.00 a name

Thanks for news. :tu:

That's another good point, I don't see any mention of ICANN accredited. Are they even registered with ICANN or reselling for another larger company?

I believe they are an enom reseller.

They're Tucows reseller.

Found in their FAQ....
Q: How do I find out what the renewal fee for my domain name is?
A: We will advise you to the renewal fee for your domain name closer to the time of renewal, so you will have enough time to make a decision about what to do with your domain name.
Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Nothing fishy here folks. Just a form of marketing as we seen with ev1servers in the past. Instead of spending loads on advertising, they are expensing in the domain department at a lost.
