Second Place: Balmong (#42) will receive 100 NP$.
Third Place: Border7 (#65) will receive 50 NP$.

i may have an entry tonight, if not before the deadline. we'll see. some nice entries so far... btw, it's not my contest but I think the emphasis on the "talk" portion is a little superficial. the conversation bubbles seem to disrupt the actual focus of what the actual website pertains to... the main focus should be on the triathlon (swimming, running, bike), the talk part is pretty blunt enough to where you shouldn't have to accentuate it. that's just my opinion but Name-Maker could feel different.

Some very good stuff so far.

I am going to take a silence is golden approach for the remainder of the contest as I do not want to negatively influence the creative process. All I will say is be creative and challenge the norm.

Thanks again for all the submissions so far. Any more out there?

SUBMISSION RETRACTED. LEFT FOR VIEWING PURPOSES ONLY!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

here is my submission. the artwork is 100% original vector... I then imported it into photoshop only for the text for more options and flexibility. I have provided you with the logo on a few different backgrounds colors to show you that it does in fact stand out on pretty much any and every color. Enjoy! :)

Don't keep too quiet, feedback is always a positive as I helps us designs move in the right direction, and how you would like revisions to your liking, we cant guess :)

OK... I'll break my silence to give guidance:

1. I really like the graphic that statd came up with in #3. However, the text could use some jazzing up.

2. I find se's design clean and simple.

3. EmanEvans submission is also quite good; however, the swimmer detracts from the presentation. In general, I am seeing the same line graphics appearing in multiple submissions. I am not impressed with these graphics. I like the use of the words Swim. Run. Bike., but the order should be Swim. Bike. Run.

4. I *really* like the graphic on Border7's submission. It is well designed. However, the color and text in the second submission are a little over the top.

5. Simple is better... IMO, Will7 has supplied the best submission so far with his 2nd incarnation. However, I would remove the line art. Also make the Triathlon standout a bit more via bright coloring. I really like the Talk in the talk bubble the color is just right. Remove the slogan and replace with Swim. Bike. Run. in black.

6. Lastly, you are designing a logo for a forum not a tshirt. There have been a few submissions that appear to me more appropriate for the latter.

Thanks again for all the submissions.

I hope this helps.

I'm assuming by this comment that this qualifies for feedback to my submission since I did not get the courtesy of receiving any feedback. I would appreciate it if people could distinguish the difference between a web header/banner and a logo. I will be posting an informative thread about the difference with the request that it be stickied because I'm not going to waste my time anymore doing a "LOGO" when a person only has the intention on using it for a web header. This is meant in no way as a direct offense to you, I just believe that if you're getting something cheap for $25 (when I mean cheap, I'm meaning that logos generally go for no less than $150-200), then you should know the difference and be more comprehensive to what it is you are needing...

I have been posting here a short time in order to keep on my p's and q's in between big projects and what I have witnessed here are a bunch of fine designers being pimped and prostituted for their talents... the least the buyers could do is know what exactly they are asking for...

but thats my opinion...sorry if you take it the wrong way, I just feel that we as designers have more to lose than you or anyone with $25. :)

I'm in the process of opening a new forum called Triathlon Talk. Providing discussion and insight on the Triathlon world.

Your mission if you choose to accept it...

Create a cool logo for Triathlon Talk. It should potentially contain swimming, biking, and running, but don't limit your creativity to my suggestion. Your ideas should be posted to the thread for all to see. I will select the winner on Wednesday, October 19, 2005. The winner will be paid either via paypal, check, or domain registrations at NameCheap.com.

Some websites providing similar content:

www.trinewbies.com (no logo :( )
www.beginnertriathlete.com (logo sucks)

Good luck!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that I see a few examples, here are some additional guidlines:

1. The swim, bike, and run icons are not required. Creative interpretation, like a triangle will suffice.

2. Use VIVID colors. Hot pink, blues, etc. This logo should stand out on a neutral background.

3. No slogan is required, just the words Triathlon Talk.

And to be more specific... there's nothing in your post stating that this will strictly be used on these forums and it states something "COOL" and "VIVID" with creative emphasis on "swimming, biking, and running". Please be more specific next time because what you are saying now in regards to what appears to be a "t-shirt" design contradicts what you originally asked for.

I'm sorry if my terminology was not as specific as you would have liked. But I clearly state it's for a Forum.

I have provided guidance throughout this thread with what I like and what I don't like. Others have fully read my posts and provided submissions and with guidance, zeroed in on what I am looking for.

If in doubt as to what I am looking for, please PM me and we can discuss it. I encourage everyone to do this prior to beginning an endeavor of this nature. Solid requirements are the key to a successful project.

Lastly, application, personal taste, sense of style, and opinion play an important role in the selection of the winner. What appeals to some may not appeal to others.

OK. Back to the contest.

No disrespect but you are still not making sense. You may have MENTIONED you were creating a forum but it did not specify that you needed a design for the header of the forums or something. You can create a forum and need a logo design for t-shirts and things PROMOTING the website and then someway implement it into the header of the forums. You have only provided feedback twice up until your most recent post. Before that, you said you were taking the silent approach. The feedback you did leave before then said nothing about the graphics used but just approach it different ways... You even said this:

Let creativity be your guide; however, it should stand out on a neutral shaded site. Think about colors that might look good on a T-Shirt. Triathletes where lots of Tees. :)

That right there is stating that t-shirts you have seen have appealed to you. Therefore you might be looking for something colorful and what might look good on a t-shirt. If you go read my post about logos it states that when designing a logo you should approach it by providing what is good for print FIRST, web SECOND. Once you have established the logo you can always tweak it for the web man... I could care less about the prize money but I do believe in what's right and protecting the rights and integrities of design artists and by far what you have said up to this point has no bearings on what I am trying to tell you.

But back to the contest...you can consider my submission retracted at this point, I do not want people to feel I am trying to sway you in any way...

Thanks for your submission.

I was trying to be nice and provide positive feedback where appropriate on designs that I found interesting. Some designs just did not appeal to me. Unfortunately, yours was one of them.

If you care to submit something else, I encourge you to do so.

Note to all: If I have not provided you specific feedback on your entry, assume I did not find it appropriate to my application or aesthetically appealing.

Of these three, I like #3 the best. However, the colors in #1 appear slightly brighter and I like that. If you could have the graphic on the left and all the text on the right, that would be ideal; however, you would need to reslant the graphic to balance out the logo.
