Currently I have this one parked at SEDO...

Any idea of what I should be asking?

www.unitedoption.com

Should be of some value to the business, finance, or travel industry.

Nah, but that's a nice thought. :) I'd say reg fee unless it is dev'd and has a nice traffic base.

Domain Appraisal For UnitedOption.Com

Appraisal For: UnitedOption.Com

The following appraisal is just my opinion based on some research and facts I've put together. The value I come to in the end doesn't mean that is the value for your domain but might give you some insight into where the value is located, and will give you a general ballpark of it's value.

Looking through some of the TOP TLD's Registered I could only find '1' and possibly '1' other name registered with your keywords in different extentions.

This section is usually a clue that the other sections will probably look pretty grim as well. Usually if a name is registered and you are the only one with that name, it indicates there isn't a great demand for those keywords. Sometimes not always, perhaps someone hasn't thought of the great potential your keywords could have, but chances are it's unlikely.

I usually grade value here starting at -$7.50, with +$2.50 (half a reg fee)for every registration. The reason I start negative is to counter speculative tld registrations on the first 3 TLD's. It's $2.50 because the other $2.50 that would make up the TLD registration cost comes from the google results as I'll explain later.

To put it in one sentence, the value here is -$5.00 if you follow that methodology.

Overture Results

Doing a search for 'United Option' brought back...

31 united health care option
27 united health care option ppo
0 United Option

It seems, united health care option seems to get a few searches, not enough to warrant any value though even for that.

Doing a search for your main keyword 'United and Option' brings back...

110717 united
150360 option

Well you definently have some strong keywords going for you and this will be where most of your overture value will come from.

The theory I go by for giving value to overture is pretty straightforward. I follow the principle of the 80-20 rule. That is to say, 80% of the people walk away, 20% take a look. It's a rule business uses to predict what percentage of people might visit your business, or in your case your domain name. Online it's sometimes called the 90-10, with only 10% looking. Perhaps I'm being optomistic, but I'll use 80-20 for this situation.

Now using the keyword united for starters, when someone types in united on a search engine, your probably not going to neccesarily show up at the top of the search engines, but there is that chance you can should you work up your page rank and such.

Assuming your site is properely advertised and you make a stab for the united keyword, united gives you better odds of getting placement for the top 1-10 or 2-20 in those search engines.

Mostly search engines use page rank (which is how many other sites link to you) to place you, but sites like MSN will look at your domain name words to make decisions as well in placing you up or down so it does play a pivitol role.

Since you likely have a lot of competition to gain a position with the word United, I'm going to be nice and assume that you somehow got to position 2-20, that means that of the 110717 people 80% won't see you because your not on the first page. Ok fair enough so that leaves, 22143~ roughly that clicked to the next page. Now of those people another 80% just click away, but 20% see your listing and click. Cool, so that is 4,428 people that might be clicking on your site monthly, not bad. Of course remember this is if you get proper position. Now, of that 4,428 people 80% will probably ignore whatever your selling, and 20% might just actually buy assuming you have a proper adverting campaign and everything etc. That means you have, 886~ that could potentially buy products from you, or what I use for measuring value here is 'google clicks', with the minimum value you can click being '6 cents'.

So 6 cents multiplied by 886~ is roughly $53.16 of potential overture value just the words united might assist in giving you by gaining higher search engine standings. Of course it can be more then '6' cents but I like to look at the gloomy side of things, because if you can follow this method and make it show a lot of money then you know you probably have a winner =). Plus, I'm not for wasting money on domains unless I'm absolutely sure it has good potential. Like most domainers, I have my share of useless domains =). The trick is how to limit them.

So with this in mind, lets do option now. Option, a strong keyword, gets 150,360 results, even better then united! So I stand corrected, it seems option is the better keyword. Following the same process, we'll assume you somehow get on the second page listing for the typing in option (which in reality is probably very crowded and hard to get there).

so 20% visit the second page, were at 30,072, 20% click to your site that is 6014 visits! Now of those 20% click a google ad at 6 cents a click, that is 1202 clicks at 6 cents equals $72.17~ of overture potential on the second page results of a popular search engine.

Your looking at a total potential overture value from your keywords of $53.16+$72.17~, not bad a total of $125.33~ potential money from just sitting on the name if you were up there on those kewords, which is a possibility with your name and some good SEO skills.

To speak realistically though, take a look on google and type in 'United' and 'Option', lets see what results show up.

You'll be competing with United Airlines for position #1. Hmm, not quite the easiest guy to beat, that's okay. Take note we searched 'United', and www.united.com was first result. The domain name does make a difference in placement, and with a company like United it wasn't hard to get it to the top of the list.

Here is some of the other sites that show up,

www.uhc.com/
www.unitedagainstracism.org/
www.manutd.com/ (Manchester United Official Web Site)
www.epa.gov/
www.state.gov/
www.census.gov/
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States
www.sba.gov/
www.un.org/ (United Nations!)

These are some tough sites to compete with, while there domain names might not include 'united in it', there content is full of it, and there page rank is massive. Each of those sites is fighting for the keyword 'United'. The person who would look at your name and try to figure a way to market it with the term 'United' to somehow get position to gain overture value would turn away because it's 'too difficult'.

If we look at the keyword option this is what you got to compete with.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Option
www.option.com/ (option.com got 2nd instead of wikipedia =P, amazing!)
www.option-nfa.com/2006/option/home/
www.usoutdoorstore.com/d_snowsports/snowboard-shop.htm
www.option-nfa.com/
www.888options.com/

So we got quite a few domains with the word 'option' already in it that are holding for top position on the keyword option. That is the problem with strong keywords like 'United' and 'Option', everyone wants to fight for it, so although you are gettings lots of searches, those searches are spread out throughout the pages, with most of the visitors going to the top page.

Because of this I'll have to say that while your name holds the potential to make $125.33 (minimum) per month from google clicks, the money you'll spend to get it to do that will be much greater or for the person looking to invest into this name based on it's keywords, so I have to say you have $0 of overture value.

It's 0 because there are no overture results for 'your exact' terms, which were 'United Option', keep this in mind. If there were results for that together, getting a top position on a search engine would be a lot easier because that search would be more unique. Not only that you would gain front page position, meaning more of those 'visits' would come to you.

My suggestion is if you buy names based on keywords, find two keywords that are strong, but also strong together in terms of people searching for it monthly. Strong enough together that it's worth the money you would make sitting on it after it easily gained page rank position #1 for that search query!

Google Results

Google Results are included to balance out the speculation value from people registerting the names just because of a lot of TLD registrations. I've noticed that around every 300,000 google results a name is registered. This of course isn't always the case, but just a general guideline I noticed. Go give it a try! So google results are the 'other' $2.50 to make up a standard $5 registration fee.

Your google results value is:

Results 1 - 6 of about 8 for unitedoption. (0.42 seconds)
Results 1 - 10 of about 653 for "united option". (0.39 seconds)

Google results for the term are VERY low! This explains why only you were the registered TLD holder, people just are very unlikely to see those terms together. I'm going to have to say $0 of google results value here.

Possible Related Keywords

These are useful when comparing sales comparables in the next part.

I've made a tool to assist in finding relevent keywords at, http://dnfinder.net/keywords2.php?keyword=word

just replace word with the word.

In anycase, I looked around for possible keywords and coudn't find anything that would correctly work together for united and option in a way that would make sense in context. So you are limited to just those keywords for domain sales comparing IMHO.

Sales Comparables

Well when all else fails like above, sales comparables can be the good way to look for value in your name. If other names happen to sell well despite having not as much marketable traffic value you know you have a 'brandable' name

BullOptions com $2,000 Jun 05 Afternic 2 11 N N http://BullOptions.com DNJournal

These were some of the notable sales. Things I noticed is that 'United' definently seems to be a 'high paying keyword' there were quite a bit of sales of names with united with pretty decent returns.

However, looking at the terms for options it was quite less in terms of average dollars, the closest sales comparable to yours might be 'bulloptions', because bull like united with options after it is just for sounding good.

That sold in january of 05, and there hasn't been a noted similar sale to yours for about a year, but good news for you at least there was one! =).

So this means that despite your name not having any traffic value perhaps there is some potential brandable value to it, yeilding you possibly low $X,XXX. Though this could take many years, possibly 3-5+ from the data shown.

TLD Value

You own the .COM, it's the best extention you could ask for if you had to choose one with the most sites on the web and most recorded sales.

Conclusion

After reviewing a lot of the factors that give domains there value, I've concluded that your domain is worth REG FEE, with the potential of low $X,XXX given 3+,5+ years, and that is with extensive advertising and work. You may wind up spending more money then you would get after you sold it just to sell it.

I would recommend perhaps if you're planning on investing in domain names, it seems names with 'united' do pretty well actually. It's the option part that is hurting you here, despite it's traffic potential. So you might consider looking into trading for another 'united' name, maybe something involving health care. Getting a name like that would give you at least some traffic value and would cater to business maybe.

Hope this appraisal helped you out!
