The "1" is reminiscent of the the time when Yahoo directories ruled the search engines. Many webmasters used "1" or some other non-letter character to get listed near the top of the alphabeticized directory listing. Google changed all that, of course.

These are so out of fashion right now. So value IMO would be ~ reg fee just for the name alone.

That's not why i put the 1 there. I wanted bloghost to be in my domain name since thats the kind of company im going to be running. Instead of picking a funky extension i decided to keep .com. Blog is one of the most popular ineternet terms on the web and any decent name with blog in it was taken, i feel this is the best alternative and i was able to keep bloghost in the name.
