"According to recent studies, Web users are increasingly gravitating to .info domains as a viable addition or alternative to .com addresses. One report stated that nearly 70 percent of the world’s most valuable brands—including the likes of MTV, BMW, Gap and Coca-Cola—maintain .info addresses. "

For the love of God don't reg your domains with 1&1, you will regret it later...

1and1 could offer me 10 free domains and I still wouldn't touch their registry with a 10 foot stick. I'd rather be bitten in the gentials by a pitbull, than have to deal with 1and1.

Kind of misleading, IMO.

Sure these companies have .INFO, but most likely just to avoid squatters from regging them. You will find that they own and use the .COM version of these .INFOs.

Also, the increase in popularity is also misleading, I think. It is most likely to do with the fact that you can often get .INFOs for next to nothing, if not free.

It is debated among webmasters and SEOers whether or not .INFOs may hurt your chances of better SE rankings, too.

Not to mention what others have said. As a domainer, forget 1and1, even if it's free. It's like using Yahoo.

Are they really that bad or are you exaggerating slightly?

Huh I was going to register a couple junk domains anyway but I'm not going to give them my credit card information for a free domain.

!&1 seems nice, and they have very attractive prices, but trust us, they are not very good at all. Besides the points raised above, their dns updating is pathetically slow compared to other registrars.

I wouldn't accept anything from 1&1... I have a nice domain with lots of traffic, very brandable, that I'm trying to transfer but I can't access the administration section of my account for whatever reason to unlock it, I don't like anything about 1&1.

If, for whatever reason, I was going to register a .info I'd get one for 150 NP$ here at NamePros.

Now that's a disturbing thought..

Yeah, I blogged about their free offer recently.. I think my gist was "free isn't always free".. you end up paying for those "free" .infos one way or another.

The other sensation that comes to mind when thinking about 1and1 is shoving my hand in the toaster while it is on. (that is of course if there are no pitbulls around...)

My www.portablemp3players.info has consistently ranked on the first page of MSN since the beginning for several keyword phrases, such as portable mp3 players info, mp3 players info, mp3 players resource, etc. INFO hasn't seemed to have hurt it at all.
