Thanks to @Lox we now know, that Microsoft owns the domain copilot .si

SI, clearly, stands for Super Intelligence in this case.

Do you own any .si domains?

I'll start with the one I have;

Roboter .si

How about you?

Slovenian coverage is mostly amused and practical, not euphoric. The dominant message is "don't expect Slovenia to get rich." Much of it looks derivative: Slovenske novice and Delo run substantively the same text, so the independent voices below are fewer than the number of headlines suggests.

The mainstream framing

  • Scale. Siol and 24ur report roughly 1,000 new .si domains a month on average before, over 45,000 in September, and nearly 20,000 in the first two days of October. 24ur later reported a record 21,756 registrations in a single day on 5 October. Outlets disagree on the baseline (about 1,000, 2,500 or 3,500 a month), so treat the "% growth" figures loosely.
  • Tone. 24ur's lede jokes that Trump's announcement has a "super" consequence for Slovenia. Delo says Slovenia unexpectedly got one of the hottest domains in the world.

Unique standpoints

  1. The registry is unnerved, not delighted. Barbara Povše, head of Register.si at Arnes, said the team is sleep-deprived. She finds it frightening that one person mentioning superintelligence in a speech, linked to a small country, without anything actually happening in AI, can cause such a shift. There is also an operational angle: a 14-person team, and foreign registrars who expect night-time responses because they aren't used to Central European time.
  2. "Slovenia won't get rich." Monitor says Arnes will earn a few hundred thousand euros, with some VAT going to the budget, and that .si is extremely cheap by world standards. Register.si itself said speculation about millions for Slovenia has no real basis. 24ur contrasts this with Anguilla, which earned about €34.3 million from .ai in 2024, nearly a quarter of the island's revenue.
  3. Asking prices vs. reality. Reports of Build.si listed at $10 million are treated as a different story from national revenue, since the registry sells at a flat €10 through resellers.
  4. A defensive-registration pitch. Register.si advised trademark, slogan and company-name holders without a .si domain to register one soon. Delo adds that first-come-first-served means a surge can hit companies that have nothing to do with superintelligence.
  5. Investors, not innovators. Vsezamojdan stresses that the jump doesn't mean tens of thousands of new tech firms; much of it comes from people registering attractive names to resell. It also says the long-term value depends on whether "Super Intelligence" stays a quirk of the US administration or goes mainstream. Siol notes an independent journalist, Adam Cochran, flagged around 12,000 AI- and MAGA-related .si domains registered or changing hands before Trump's announcement.
  6. A Slovenian secondary market. Povše expects part of the secondary market to concentrate in Slovenia, as local companies realized this might be a business opportunity. Monitor adds that about three-quarters of holders were Slovenian last year, but that ratio will change sharply this year.
  7. The Slo-Tech tech-community view. The site frames it historically: when an abbreviation goes global, matching ccTLDs sell out and get resold, as happened with .tv and .ai, and it asks whether Slovenia faces the fate of Tuvalu and Anguilla. Its commenters were more practical, discussing registrars and cheaper first-year prices, plus one dismissive anti-American remark.
  8. The Melania angle. City Magazine calls it a near-cinematic irony that the current First Lady, Melania Trump, was born in Slovenia. A 24ur reader comment half-joked the idea came from Melania. The English-language Renascence piece mentions conspiracy theorists wondering about a link.
  9. Reader sentiment. 24ur's comments were sparse and cynical. One reader found everything already taken, and another used the thread to attack Trump and his Slovenian supporters.

It remains to be seen when the federal authorities will adopt a positive outlook.

Slovenia appears to be very keen on maintaining its national autonomy and identity. When the country presented the draft of its national action plan for AI SI to discussion a year ago, the materials were available only in Slovenian.

Slovenia has the potential to become a worldwide Superintelligence Valley.
"We are bringing Superintelligence to the Internet!"
"Send us global data streams and get Superintelligence back."
A campus hosting all the leading SI companies.
An international forum, once established for tech talk, will emerge into other fields.
Superintelligence Marketing can add value to the appeal of the tourism sector, which currently thrives on the country's scenic and historical attractions.

I like Slovenians, but this is super naive. The fact that the world suddenly wants your TLD doesn't mean they want anything else. I wonder what percentage of .si holders even know where Slovenia is. ;)

With this attitude nothing will change to the better. Try not be super naive and and don´t develop. Or allow dreams and try to relize them.

Big dreams cost a lot to develop, I really hope the government doesn't read to much into the .si registration surge or a vast amount of taxpayer money might go into unfeasible projects. As for individual businesses? Sure, I'd say go for it. Especially those with cool .si domains suddenly got a whole new level of visibility and they can try to capitalise on it.

Sedo listed price is (was?) 8,640 EUR, however it appears last NS pointed to Fruits.co. Unsure if that is what the buyer paid.

Check out Lawyer.si

Looks like it recently sold and is now developed.

Old Sedo listing is still live which is how I stumbled across it.

After seeing Josh's post about Lawyer.si being built out earlier I gave a lawyer friend a call. We both thought "Oh Shit"...this may be game changing in a way we didn't think of before.

Many people are already familiar with "AI" knowing that it is basically Google on steroids (speaking of asking it things, not coding).

Now with the SI term becoming popularized, we started thinking maybe there will be more trust given to SI over AI.

OK, so in the Lawyer.si case...let's say you have some important legal issues. Would you rather seek info/advice from Lawyer.ai or Lawyer.si?

"Artificial" Intelligence (Google on steroids) or this Super mind? Super exceeds artificial.

“It gives it a more authoritative and commanding presence, implying intelligence that transcends the artificial.” (this sentence written by ChatGPT)

Something to ponder...

Exactly! Something to ponder with the help of Ponder.si, not the limited Ponder.ai.

(Yes, I own Ponder.si :))

People spent so much time arguing over what was after AI they didn't realize AGI was reached over a year ago.

Remember when AI first came out and people were excited over crappy jpeg art and Will smith spaghetti?

It's clear that AI has been better than your average human for quite some time and it's not unrealistic to think that governments and AI companies with huge data centers don't have access to capabilities beyond our wildest imaginations aka Superintelligence.

I own StaffingSI .com with $10k BIN, buyer opted for Staffing .si 5X the .com

I’ve had several cases like this…

Surprisingly, my Afternic PR are all SI+KW (com) /KW+SI (com) & mostly related to HR and Humanoid niches.

My domain ArtificialVC .com $17,500 was snubbed for Artificial. VC $95,000 & I have 9 cases like this. Imagine if the seller had listened to critics. Sometimes, it comes down to strong keywords & preferences VC as Venture Capital.
Don't listen to them. Don't listen to me. DYOR.
