I've two questions regarding this program by Adobe.

Firstly, what is the difference between slices and image maps? Afterall, both can be used to choose a certain part of the picture to create a link.

Secondly, how do I configure my settings so that when I save a sliced layout for the web, the images are saved as .jpg? I use Image Ready CS.

Thanks.

i dont know the diff between slices and image maps to be honest, (im guessing slices are just quadilaterals, where image maps can be any shape).

but i know how to export as a jpeg, you change the optimization to jpeg from gif, if you look at the top riht of imageready (standard layout) theres a window with 3 tabs, click the optimization tab and you should see the drop down box there somewhere.

Hope that helps, im sitting at college and they dont have photoshop, so i cant really pemember specific names, ill edit my post when im home if i can

An image map is one picture. Coordinates on the image are selected to create any shape in the image to link up. Circles can also be made into links.
Slices actually cut the picture up into multiple pictures and then are put back together in a table. Slices will always be rectangular.

Image maps are more efficient for setting up links direct through photoshop where the text is in the psd. Slices are used to put text over a photoshop image which is treated as text and not an image.

I hope that helps.
