You are probably thinking about articles like this one, that mentions the domain.

Owner is in a good position with this name, but not $2.8 million good.

The thread i have shown is from 2007 where the owner has asked for opinions on the value of the name, all these years later the price is 2.8 million when you go to the site, i could not even say if it was the same owner

2.8 million is a high price now, but who's to say what it might be worth in a few years? It all rests on how much a part of our language IOT becomes.

We're just starting to see it now, so I assume the owner is not eager to sell. If I don't want to sell a name, I'll put a sky-high price on it just in case. (I may not want to sell, but there's always a price.) There's no telling how big IOT might be in the near future.

(IOT = Internet of Things)

I understood the thread EVI, I was answering to urlurl. I thought I have seen something on Domaining newsletter about iot sold for 2.8 millions but I might have read it wrong.
