Hey! :xf.smile: I just wanted to share something that might improve the experience of some users.
When I login and click on the "New Posts" column, on the right, looking to see what that user has posted, the system always takes me to the last post I have read, not to the New Post of that thread that I want to see. And the last read post can be 4 or 5 pages before the New post I want to see.
So I always have to scroll up or down, click on the last page, and scroll again, to see that last post of that user.
As I think this is a bit time consuming, to get to see the clicked last post, I just thought that I should let you know, my user experience :xf.smile:

I take the oportunity to congratulate you for your forum, the most complete and customized forum I have seen. Congrats and keep up the good work! (y)

Hello,

That's an excellent point.

There are two ways to look at it:
  1. The "New Posts" sidebar widget is referring to a specific post by a specific member. If you visited it expecting to read the new post by "John Doe" but then you were taken to the last post you read in that thread by "Jane Doe," you may be confused or not enjoy that experience.
  2. On the other hand, the post by "John Doe" may just have reminded you about a thread that you'd like to continue reading where you stopped (the last post you read).
We can understand both expectations.

Would you mind if we moved this thread to a public section for more feedback from the community?

Perhaps someone can think of a logical way to have a link to both.

Hello! :xf.smile:

Yes you can move it to a public section for more feedback from the community.
Maybe it depends of how each user use the forum. In my case I click many times on the "New Posts" column, and if I haven't read that thread in a few days, the click takes me to 3-4 or even more pages before the new post I want to read.
And as the right column title is "New Posts" I always expect to go to that new post from the user I have clicked.
The other way, I always have to scroll down, click on the last page, and scroll down again to see the last new post I want to see. (y)

That would be a good solution. You can add the option into the user's "Preferences", where you can choose if clicking on the "New Posts" right column sends you to the "Last Read Post", or to the "Last New Post" from the user you clicked.

  • The sidebar remains visible by scrolling at a speed relative to the page’s height.
