Spain's capital Madrid has lost a challenge under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Policy (UDRP) over the domain name madrid.com.
The action was brought by Empresa Municipal Promoción Madrid S.A. - a public company owned entirely by the Madrid City Council, set up to promote the City of Madrid and its image to tourists and businesses. The domain was registered by Easylink Services Corporation, who used the domain as part of their network of geographic and other domains giving users access to free email addresses such as [yourname]@madrid.com.
