I'm sure this has happened before to some on here and I am no stranger to this either.

IT IS A TOTAL NIGHTMARE!

Nothing sucks more than losing a domain you did not want to lose and because of stupid things like the wrong auth codes from your registrar.

They give you a download of all your domains including matching auth codes. most work. but every now and then auth codes are not correct.

it always happens when the situation is time sensitive and you need to get things done quick.

For whatever reason, a domain you did not plan to let go gets lost and now it's with some other domainer.

You lose the domain because.

1. you did not set auto renew.
2. you left auto-renew off because you always plan to transfer.
3. you tried to transfer but for some reason wrong auth codes. you did not follow up with transfer because you assumed auth codes were good. domain goes into redemption. You can't afford to pay redemption fee. You take the risk and let it delete. or you think you are slick and pay for cheap dropcatch service but the service fails and gets beat by a faster dropcatch service.
4. registrar you order a domain transfer took to long to transfer and domain goes into redemption or simply did not submit the proper whatever to start the process.
5. Domain went to auction and you "planned" on bidding but forgot. You waited because you did want to run up the bid but then you weren't paying attention and missed it.

I'd like to hear your experiences bad or good.

You can even mention when you "almost" lost a domain because of any of the above but luckily got your domain in your account "safely".

Please excluded anything that has to do with paying a redemption fee.

CoinSwitzerland.com
5GMobile.de
BestInjury.com

These are just a few I remember. I'll add more later.

So what domains have you lost in the past that really pissed you off?

Please note.

umm when did you lose this domain? wasn't there a recent change over at Godaddy as far as being able to transfer out? I think the magic number now is 18 days.

19th day is redemption. pay $80

19th day. can't transfer out.

30 days is history.
42 days is history too

or so I'm told.

did not know ICANN rules can be changed by registrar. if you call ICANN about it they will say each registrar has their own set of rules.

in that case what's the point in having ICANN make rules when anyone can make their own? I don't get it.

wow thatd be some news
where did you hear this?
ive been away from domaining and here for good few months so i won't say its not possible... but I was here when they cut it down to -30 days.. and it already made chaos reactions with domainers.... and i don't blame them at all.... myself included.

Wow I really didn't know that. But this is definitely around the time when it was changed to 30 days. As I said there were other domains that expired the same day and 1 domain expired a day before ZKRO.com, and I was able to transfer those but they took this specific one out of my account way before 30 days. I don't keep my domains at Godaddy anymore. I only have like 15-20 domains which are mostly .co.uk . All others and coms were transferred out to other registrar. I don't trust Godaddy anymore and won't keep my domains there. Right after this incident I transferred out all my LLLL.coms right away.

I lose domains because I'm not 100 percent sure, they are worth renewing, or because purchasing after letting them drop is cheaper....A domain doesn't get any inquiries, or we think this is the case, while they do at some popular marketplaces, but those marketplaces don't inform us about it, and instead wait until domain drops.. Buyer has money and they know it, so they can get 10K from it, but they also know the buyer may forget about it, ..and the seller may be happy with 1K, so if sold after responding to price request they make 100-200 profit only, so they try to buy it for 100 , by offering 20 or making price requests, and it doesn't work. So they wait until the domain drops, they handreg it, and make a 100K counteroffer to the old request with the hope of selling for 10K minimum, all being profit. Such a thing may explain why domains don't sell, when they should.

It is weird, because when I called the agents, one of them told me himself that the domain should not have been taken out of my account. He said he is trying to put the domain back in my account, but he was unable to. He then suggested to send an email to [email protected] and I did, but never heard back from them. Few days passed in calling and trying to get this resolved and by then the domain was already resolving to buydomains sales page.
maybe because it is [email protected] not the singular. They probably did not receive the email. We do not move domains from people's accounts on day 24. Day 30 post expiration is the latest you have to renew a domain in most cases. CCtlds are not beholden to ICANN and make their own rules and there are a ton of variables within those domains. For instance on some you need to renew BEFORE they expire, some have no redemption period, some have a grace period only until the end of the month they expired in, so your name expires on Feb 1, you have until Feb 28 to renew, if it expired on Feb 28th, you have till the end of that day to renew, etc. So if we are talking a CCtld here it can vary greatly. If it is a Gtld like .com then you have 30 days post expiration.

Wait a minute. Is it just me or wasn't there a big thing that happened last year or 2018 about domains at goDaddy going into redemption after 18 days? Say 19 is redemption so can transfer out as it's in lock?

So which day does a domain like .com,.net, and .org really impossible to transfer out?

For the record @Joe Styler ?

When does a domain at goDaddy. In gtld . Go into redemption.

My rep told me 18 but for me because I have a premier account I get 24 ( but I never risk it)

Clear this up please @Joe Styler

Has it been 30 all this time? Or 18 because I think there were several that I paid redemptions in at day 19 but don't quote me on that because I probably just let them delete.

I just checked my email to make sure I sent it to the right email address. Yes I used [email protected] the plural version, not the singular version.

oh boy. But shouldn't [email protected] emails resolve to [email protected]?
Many large companies know at some point people will put a plural in the email address. hasn't Godaddy prepared for this?

here's a list I would have thought Godaddy would have default sent to at least [email protected] as a "catch all" in case any emails get lost or in this case an "s" was added.

like

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

I mean it's pretty common standard operating procedure I would think?

and of the above and more goes direct to [email protected] so no matter what even with mistakes someone will read it? @Joe Styler ?
